How "transparent' are the PAF Pro's???

Extremely transparent. Look at the EQ chart on Dimarzios site....it's almost flat. It most likely is the most transparent pickup I've played yet since no one frequency really stands out a ton. Some people find it to be a "boring" sounding pickup for this reason as it will not make a mediocre guitar sound great by tossing in a lot of presence or bottom end like like Distortion or '59 or Super Distortion.

I don't know why people say that some of the Duncans and Dimarzios are transparent and let the guitar "shine through" cause they clearly don't when you have frequency ranges boosted or cut like in most pickups.

Re: Dimarzio equivalent of the '59?

My take on a couple of these pickups.

The '59 is a great open sounding pickup. I have it in a few of my guitars in the neck position. Don't really care for it in the bridge as I like a little more output.

The PAF Pro is a bridge pickup per say but I think it sounds WAY better in the neck position. Very clear thick sound that splits REALLY well. This with the DiMarzio Tone Zone is my favorite combo from DiMarzio. The two together work really well as a pair, especially when split.

A comparison between the '59 and the PAF Pro: The '59 is glassier sounding to my ears and maybe a little tubby on the low end. Very classic PAFish tone that I love. The PAF Pro gives a good clear sound and sounds great clean split or unsplit. Nice round tone without the harsh mids (around 2.5k). It still has mids, just not the kind that pierce your ear when strumming clean.

Re: Dimarzio equivalent of the '59?

I personally think that the PAF Pro is a great neck pup, very clear, good bite, good chunk on the low end, but tight (read no mud), warm and bright in that position, and yes that little mid bump in it is great for tighten up overdrive in that position. However, I don't think it is particualr a great bridge pup, nor was it really meant as a *bridge pup* ... on a brighter and longer scale instrument (especially with a locking vibrato) is can come across as being to bright, and lacking body and low end ... On a darker instrument it may be okay, to me a PAF Pro has mor in common with a Pearly Gates ... and that's a stretch ...both PAFish, with extra output (not that much), and extra top, and bite, with a little tightening on the low end.

Re: Dimarzio equivalent of the '59?

The closest Pickup to the the 59 that Dimarzio make is the Breed neck model. From wat ive heard its sposed to have the same dynamics as the 59 but sound alot clearer under lots of gain.
