Dimarzio for neck, SD for bridge?

Hi!

Lately, I realised that on my four electric guitars, three of them have a Dimarzio neck pickup and a SD bridge pickup. The fourth guitar has stock pickups that are beasts, so no swapping here for the next few eternities... Hence, for now, all pickup swapping operations led to Dimarzio at the neck and SD at the bridge.

Dimarzio pickups: PAF Pro, True Velvet, PAF 7
SD pickups: SH5, STK-S6, Black Winter (7 strings)

Am I the only one to end up with similar combinations of pickups?

Have a great day!

I’m. 180 from you: Les Paul with a Super Distortion bridge and a Duncan 59 in the neck. I love that combo!

I swap pickups when I'm bored, sometimes it's more of a relaxation than tone chasing thing.

Of my HH guitars wired up right now, only one of them has two of the same brand pickup. I end up buying matched sets, but mixing them quite a bit.

DiMarzio / Wolfetone
Duncan / Duncan
Epiphone / GFS
Wolfetone/ Harmonic Design (Meanest p90 bridge, Z90 neck. Oh damn. It was worth Dremeling out the bridge PU cavity)
Fleor / Duncan (the Fleor is in my most expensive guitar, it just works lol)
Harmonic Design / GFS

I think that's current.

I need more humbucker guitars for all these pickups.

I have a Les Paul type with a DiMarzio PAF in the neck, and a Custom59 hybrid in the bridge.

I did that once, mixed a SD and a Dimarzio.
First solo comes, and midway through the guitar starts smoking. A little at first and then more and more.
People started screaming and cheering, thinking it was part of the act, but I had to take the guitar off and set it down, it had become so hot.

As soon as I set it against my amp, it blew up! Fortunately, no one was hurt by the flying pieces, and as this was the last song, the crowd roared in approval.
Unfortunately, I didn't bring a backup, and so we were unable to do an encore.
That caused the band to start arguing and fighting, and we broke up before the stage was struck.

So for me, no more mixing SD and Dimarzio.
YMMV

Sorry, that's all I've got ...

Like I posted in the thread dave74 linked;
Custom Custom (bridge), Injector Neck (middle), 54 Pro (neck) in a Jackson

I've had a Duncan JB-8 7 string in the bridge and a Dimarzio PAF 7 in the neck of my custom 7 string for well over a decade now.

Got the same Duncan JB-8 in a 6 string version with a couple GFS Strat pickups in an HSS configuration in one of my custom 6 strings for the same length of time as the 7 string (they were built alongside each other),

I'm in the process of putting a JB-8 into the bridge of my Squier '51; it has a GFS Dream 90 in the neck position.

The JB-8 has kind of become my signature bridge pickup. It handles everything I ask it to do with aplomb. The Alnico 8 gives it some more bass and just makes it somewhat more 'wild' for lack of a better term.
