Dimarzio PAF Pro

Anybody here using this in the neck position along with a Super Distoriton?

I have an Air Norton in the neck of my guitar right now and the thing just muds up my mahogany guitar way too much -- and the bass is just too boomy. I need something that doesn't muffle the Super D when both pups are engaged.

I think the PAF Pro would probably do the same thing. If you want, you could try it. DiMarzio has a 30 day return policy. If you're not happy, you can return it within 30 days for another pickup of equal cost.

What type of music do you play? What amp are you using?

Re: Dimarzio PAF Pro

I have a PAF Pro. It's in the bridge of a high end Yamaha Pacifica-and it sounds awesome! However, it is scheduled for a transplant into the GTX 36 LP Custom. That Guitar has a ToneZone. SO: I don't have a SuperD or a PAF Pro in the neck. But I will! Keep all of that iun mind - so this is speculation!

I think it will do just fine! I think of the PAF Pro as a sort of Custom Custom like pup. It's got a mid/honky sort of thing, in a good way. It's a little hotter feeling to me than the basic 59/PAF sort of thing. But I wouldn't call it bassy/woofy at all.

On another note, however; How is that SuperD adjusted? I find it hard to believe it's muffed by the neck pup. You might want to check the adjustments on height/screws, an possibly the wiring.

Re: Dimarzio PAF Pro

The Air Norton has a sharp treble and more high midrange. The Air Norton is more of a distortion pickup. The PAF Pro has a sweet round high end and less distortion with more of an emphasis on the low midrange. The PAF Pro is a very sweet pickup.

Their are a number of things you can do short of replacement. You could try turning the pickup so that the sensing coil is toward the bridge and radius the pole pieces of the coil near the bridge while lowering the poles toward the neck. Also if you have a seperate tone control for the neck you could try a smaller capacitor to allow more high end. Or try it parallel rather than series. I have been able to save a number of pickups by doing these things.

You could go with a Humbucker From Hell but I have always felt that it is too weak and doesn't live up to its press.

Re: Dimarzio PAF Pro

Try a regular PAF. It's a great neck pickup and matches up with the Super D perfectly. Think Randy Rhoads in the Sandoval Polka Dot V. I've got one in the neck of my Strat with an Air Zone in the bridge. It's great sounding. Very sweet and warm and not boomy in that guitar. It shouldn't be boomy in your guitar either.

Re: Dimarzio PAF Pro

Are we talking clean or distorted tone here?I have that combo in my epi elite lp
they sound great with gain in both positions when I use both together I usually roll off most of the neck volume.I found the paf pro a little boomy clean I ended putting it quite low kind of the nature of the beast w/that guitar I guess.

PAF Pro should sound great in the neck!!!! I have an Air Norton in the bridge on one of my guitars and the thing RULES!!!!!!!!
Also for the neck i think an Air Classic would work really well!!!!
