Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

OK here goes, I have a Washburn P-II with a Alnico II pro in the neck and currently a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I have a Dimarzio PAF and was wondering if that might be a better choice in the bridge then the pearly gates. Also, with the Pearly Gates, is there different ways it can be wired? Thanks

Re: Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

well if you already have the pickup and you're not completely sold on the PG why not wire the dimarzio up? Every guitar is a bit different and that is the only real way to know.

Re: Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

It is not imo: both the A2P (too muffled for my tastes - some call it warm) and the Dimarzio (too bass boomy) are not the best choices for the neck. But would prefer the Dimarzio, while bringing down the bass side under the pickup ring.

Re: Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

^ Don't listen to this man. The A2P is PERFECTION!!!! And he's talking about replacing the BRIDGE.

Stick with the PG man. I got that combo in my strat, and it's nothing short of complete.
The PG has 4-conductor wiring, so look under the Wiring Diagrams section of the Seymour Duncan website for ideas.

Re: Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

DiMarzio sounds like cardboard compared to the PG. Is the PG too bright sounding for you?
If so try a different pot or stick an Alnico 8 magnet in it.
I believe the PG is the most versatile humbucking pickup there is along with the C5 SH-14
or Antiquity which is a vintage PAF also...
but for some reason the DiMarzio sounds like cardboard to me even the 36th Aniv.

El Chupa thanks for the diagram tip, I'll check it out. Sonnyblu, yeah, too bright, but that is why I asked about the wiring, I think the Dimarzio was wired per SD colored wires.

If it's too bright you can do a ton of things from lowering the pickup, playing with the polepieces, changing tone pots, etc. to try and tame the high end. Is it covered or open coiled?

Re: Dimarzio PAF vs. SD Pearly Gates

El Chupa, Looking at my post I forgot to mention I did have the Dimarzio installed but ws talked into the PG.. The PG sounded way different then the Dimarzio. I'm a newb at this so bear with me, if that Dimarzio was wired per a SD color code how would that have affected the sound of that pup?? I know the guy who installed it knew about as much as me as I called SD for the wiring on the Alnico II and I think he used that on the Dimarzio as well.. He didn't last long at that shop..lol..
