I've been thinking of getting myself a couple of bridge pup's: The Air Zone and Steve's Special. Advertised producing Cleandistortion Chords so the notes will be heard. What do you think? will it be worth a shot. And Humbucker's From Hell' to nail the neck sound?
I have a air zone and had tried the SS a ways back
the SS needs a midrange heavy amp to sound full it has pulled back mids that can sounds too hollow with the wrong amp
the air zone is a ultra fat paf is a tonally balanced and has tremendous dynamics and a great singing lead voice
i like to think of it as a fatter JB without that upper mid spike and a more tamed output.
to me the air zone is a great pup for most amps whereas the SS seems to work best with mesa or similar amps.
for the neck the HFH is a great choice if you like the duncan jazz or a sort of single coil bite to the neck tone.( not really single coil tones but more like a P-90 type) fatter than a strat pup but still has great cut and bite in the neck
it will work with either the SS or air zone in the bridge
John from dream theater used a HFH in the neck along with a tone zone on the "images and words" disc.
right now i have a air zone and air norton in the neck and this combo to me is great, your mileage may vary but i think that it is as good as the JB/jazz set'that is so popular to many.
