Re: Dimarzio Red/Blue/Blue Velvets???
I have played this set.
(I actually have a set for sale, cheap, if you're interested...email me at nickpierro -AT- mac.com)
Anyway...
Its actually a pretty solid set. The Red Velvet is definately more "half and half" than the Duncan Twangbanger. I feel that the twangbanger sounds 90% like a tele, whereas the Red Velvet kinda sounds 50% like a tele. Its got more strat glassyness to it...probably because of the alnico5 mag in it.
the Blue Velvets are great pickups too. Not as bright as the Duncan SSL1s. They have a slightly warmer high end to them, which may or may not suit your taste.
Pros: String balance is great, due to their unique magnet stagger
Cons: no hum cancelling in the notch positions. But a great quack sound, nonetheless.
I have a dark sounding strat, and needed brighter pickups for my neck and mid. I don't like mixing pickup companies, so opted to go with duncan for the entire set. But the Blue/REd Velvets are a respectable pickup set in their own right.
a Little less vintage funk, and a little more modern smoothness than the SSL1/Twangbanger set.
