Dimarzio Red Velvet DP174 ?

Anyone tried this? I have tried several mid 7k/A5 pickups in my 62 type strat and they just sound a bit too hard and bright in the highs. Don't wanna resort to a 5/2 type pickup, would like to stick with A5 because even tho it it probably part of the reason, overall i just prefer A5 in strats. So i started thinking about going even more overwound and the dimarzio nt only take it to 1k more at 8.5k, but it has a tele style plate. So i thought it might be what i need, which is more output to smooth things out in the high end with a overdriven sound. But i see almost no reviews on it which is worrisome. Anyone tried one of these and if so, thoughts? Oh, and i have tried a SSL5 so no need to suggest that, i didn't like it at all.

Super late reply haha... but did a red velvet search to see what others thought of them and found your post. Maybe this helps you or others. I have a Red Velvet reverse wound in the middle position between a custom/59 hybrid and a jazz neck in an Ibanez S570DX. I don't have a ton of experience with true singles but I think it's really great, enough output to keep up with the buckers, great string balance (the stagger is smartly done imo) and a interesting twangy but still bell-like sound likely cuz of the tele plate. In positions 2 and 4 it combines fantastically with the split buckers and gives a muscular but still hollow nasally stratty sound that we expect. This is with 500k pots so I'm likely hearing something brighter (which I'm liking) than with 250k pots, but note this is also a mahogany body. Not ice picky, just punchy, brightly defined and rich. I rigged the tone control to be bass rolloff too (a la G&L PTB system) which helps the buckers sound single coil'ish and positions 2 and 4 have good quack. Handles drive quite well, and I can easily hear it's character through the drive. This setup in my Ibby is amazingly toneful and versatile and it kills! I don't know why I don't hear about the RV more, it fills a bright toned high output true single niche where there doesn't seem to be a lot of choices...
I've got Fasttrack-1's and a bridge Chopper in my G&L Legacy Special and the RVelvet is much more defined than the FT-1's at around the same output, thinking about putting an RV in the middle of that guitar too, it works so well. Chopper is a different beast, higher output, defined but thick. Comparing to other strats (with true singles) I've played, the RV retains the highs with slightly less glass with more output and mid/low body. I haven't tried the RV in my swamp ash G&L, but I'm guessing it would work fine there... haven't tried an SSL5 so I can't compare. Good luck.

It's basically a Twang Banger with AlNiCo 5 instead of 2. It's smooth, I wouldn't say bright or harsh, but at the end of the day it is just a 7k / 8k Strat pickup. It's intended to be a bridge pickup.

just putting on a baseplate softens the highs in a pleasing way for me, its cheap, easy and removable
