Howdy,
After months of research, and posts on various gear forums the day finally arrived: My ES-335 was at last ready this afternoon with a DiMarzio Air Classic
and 36th Anniversary PAF (b).
OK, on to the tone review with my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia..
I wanted less treble / bass than the '59s i'd had in there and more in the mids. Mission accomplished with DiMarzio. At low volume, chimey "British Invasion" tones leaped from my Weber AlNiCo silver bell speaker as I played chords in the middle position on my 335. "Breathy" and "Transparent" are the two adjectives which best describe these P/Us at low volume in my rig.
At high volume, the absence of that boomy '59 neck was a welcome change. Getting my Ya-Ya's out with snarling, thick chords proved to be pure fun. That Air Classic neck indeed has that "vocal " quality for single note leads. The 36th Anni in the bridge comes into it's own at higher volume and is good for raunchy tones. Sorry for the novel.
PS: SD's Vintage P-90s remain my favorite P/U.
