Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help....

I have 2 Dimarzio Super Distortion Humbuckers and Ive noticed that the 6th String (thick E) disrtorts when played hard on the clean channel but not the other strings....

Is this normal and why is it only this String?

Is it because the string vibrates more when played hard....And does anyone know how to resolve this...

Thanks

Lee

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

This is normal. If you dont like it, lower the bass side of the pickup so the pickup is further away from the strings.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

That string is thicker and louder than the others. Do what Odie said and see if that fixes it.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

It's probably because the E string is the loudest string to a pickup normally. It's the thickest, and it vibrates with the most force. Second, assuming you have the pole pieces straight across, the outer E strings are going to be closest to the poles and the inside strings progressively farther away. Also the Super D's have a very strong magnetic field. You could be experiencing a little magetic field interaction on the low E, again because it's generally the closest.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

Just take an allen hex and lower the pole of the low E.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

So is this normal and is it something to worry about? would it be a dodgy pickup?

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

Normal, read post 6 for the answer. I doubt anything is wrong with the pickup.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion problem

I dont understand why it is only 1 string though

The lower the note (frequency) the more power is required to amplify it.

The power level required to amplify the higher strings is less than the maximum your amp can produce, hence the clean tone.

The power level required to amplify your low E string is greater than the maximum your amp can produce, hence the distortion.
