Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

"Adult Conversation" really,Like I said you don't have knowledge on the subject.OOOOK lets help you again like I said Edwards destroyer was used for all the non trem songs for van halen 1 there was only two pickups that could have been used on his destroyer the super 70 which was the stock pickups on the Ibanez destroyer which you might not know about(more knowledge for you) or the mighty mite pickup which is a clone of the Dimazio Super distortion pickup.More knowledge for you, there were no photos of the band recording Van halen 1 but there is the famous photo of van halen recording van halen II which shows Edwards destroyer with the cream color mighty mite pickup in the bridge postion of his Destroyer.Would you like more knowledge,I might have to charge you for all this knowledge............"Treat you like a idiot" REALLY...............

:wave:Hello...........

That's what I thought............

I'm glad you have the luxury of prattling on endlessly and incorrectly about stuff, but some of us have adult responsibilities such as driving home from work which keeps us away from forums.

I was waiting for an adult conversation and never got one.

Then this happened.

Gilmour there you are, myself and others are waiting at the "Dimarzio Super Distortion van halen 1" thread, where are youuuuuu

Gilmour there you are, myself and others are waiting for you at the "Dimarzio Super Distortion van halen 1" thread, where are youuuuuu

You post in another thread that has nothing to do with this. At this point you're interfering with the forum as a whole and affecting other people's conversations. You are officially trolling and I am done with you.

In a former life as a head forum moderator for a gaming community which no longer exists I would have temporarily banned you for doing that. Let's see how the SDUGF moderators and admins treat that.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

So the real intentions come out... Pitbull doesnt want to discuss Eddies tone... he wants to troll and argue about, and since most are ignoring his attempts to start EVH trash here hes resorting to badgering...

The biggest problem is that its all been said before so no one cares... Pitbull doesnt have EVH's hands.. nor does he have Ted Templemann so no matter what he does he will never achieve the tone...

My dad used to say "You can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first"

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

Hey gilmour you should watch how you come across not childish like you did, more adult like if you know what then I and others would take you more serious. If you don't have knowledge on a subject like van halen(you don't)you shouldn't respond like the way you do.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

Pittbull, my friend, you may have the knowledge, but you clearly have no idea what to do with it.

I would, for ONCE in all of your millions of EVH-related posts that currently exist (or used to exist) on the internet, LOVE to hear a real life example produced by you personally that shows all of us exactly how to get THAT tone, since you are THE expert and the only one capable of putting all the pieces together in the proper order...

Seriously, though...you've trolled every major music forum bashing all others' insights while blindly bickering about things you have absolutely NO personal experience with. Case in point: You come in here and start a thread saying the Super D is the be-all-end-all pickup for VH1 tone, then your next post says you still need to "try" the Super Distortion yourself.

Get on it, man...try the thing! But don't continue to post baseless nonsense, call names and get innocent members riled up for nothing. No one cares how many times you've listened to "clips"...we've all done that. Put your proof where your mouth is for once or leave the subject alone.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

definitely...not with a peavey vypyr thats for sure.

Hey, don't knock the poor Vypyr!

Truth be told, my old Vypyr Tube 120 did a pretty decent job achieving a range of EVH tones. True to life? Not exactly, but certainly close enough that most players would be plenty happy rocking out the classics. :)

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

lol yeah. you are probably right. Which makes all the arguments about pickups pretty much redundant!

Funny thing would be if he didn't even listen to VH. LOL

I've had a VH mix CD (every album 'cept VHIII in high bitrate MP3s) in my car since before ADKoT came out and had to redo the CD to include that. It's pretty much been on repeat endlessly and I do about two hours worth of driving a day. I can't tell you what Ed had for lunch on the days that they recorded but I can tell you what sounds produced.

What gets crazy close are the two presets that zenmindbeginner made for the POD X3. Of course, he also has amazing playing ability and gets that some of the "gain" is just how hard the strings are hit.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

My dear friend Mark Abrahamin RIP(Rockstah) was the closest to that sound with his Mod 5.

All of Eddie's guitars are filled with live bees to get his tone. Eddie left us a clue with his Bumblebee painted guitar on VHII. He would annoy the crap out of them with a special switch hidden in the back of his guitar to get them to start buzzing.

Masta C I'm not causing any issues with anyone unless someone starts with me that's plain and simple my friend some people like to dish it out but they can't take what's coming next

Clearly EVH used a stock Ibanez V8 pickup on the first album, which he stole when he time-traveled to 1987 and brought back with him :)

No matter where your opinion lies, the truth is that the amp, effects, playing technique and, ultimately, the production process itself, accounts for the bulk of what we hear. Pickups are just flavoring once you get everything else right.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

Mike Hummel gets a nice sound but he's using a basswood body guitar which sounds soft for the van halen 1 sound.Basswood would be good for the later van halen sound like from the 5150 album to the present day.Edward started to use basswood in 1986 until now.Ash is the wood for early van halen don't forget..

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

I'm actually surprised there aren't more Slashtone® arguments on this forum...

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion Van halen 1 sound(first album)

I have a confession to make...I'm not really a Van Halen fan...

But I appreciate his influence. Some of my favorite guitarists wouldn't be playing if it weren't for him.
