Dimarzio Super Distortion

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion

I used the EVO for years, and its a screamer. It and the D activators have good modern sounds, with a lot of brightness. The Tone was a little too dark/bassy for me, and the Super is a little bassy and too old school sounding. I'm probably gonna try the Suhr Aldrich next.

I do love the comparisons. LOL. As far as the Di-mar ss, I have one in a Jackson DK2, and I honestly like it a lot. It is a bit thicker than the jb sh4, and not as scooped sounding as most hot SDs. If I had to compare it in Duncan terms, I would say maybe a cross between a jb and an Invader. Just my take. It's the only Di-mar I've ever owned so IDK how it sounds in other bodies, woods, etc. but the truth is that it works for that guitar.
That being said, I still intend to put an Invader in the bridge. Brand loyalty is a great thing, but sometimes it can hold you back.

Re: Dimarzio Super Distortion

How about the Black Winter. She's the one who rides in on a Harley, drinks you under the table and kick's your butt in pool and darts. She can also cook, clean, hunt, fish, dresses up nice for your family or friends (in whatever appropriate fashion) and makes you wonder when you had gotten so good in bed.
And if I ever get tired of the RCUOA5 version of the 59/JB set (hex heads in the 59) in my Schecter baritone Blackjack, which are like that girl's slightly less attractive, but every bit as capable, cousins, then it shall be getting a set thereof.

Just to chime in on the topic of SuperD - Zakk used Super D's to record on one of his more popular Black Label albums and he performed live with a guitar loaded with Super D for several years as well. Super Distortion is still one of the best sounding pickups around.

Super 3's will get you pretty close to the EMG81 sound but passive, and Dominions maybe will do it slightly better still.

No-one suggest the Screaming' Demon?

Since you already got the FullShred in the neck, you may do well with the Screaming' Demon. It's got the flavor of the DD with a lot less compression. If you want more drive from it, move it closer to the strings and it fattens up and compresses nicely.

Just a thought!

Good luck in your quest and remember 90+% of your tone is in your hands.
