Dimarzio true velvets

Hi everybody!
I'm in a strat project, classic sounding, very vintage style.
I really like the fenders 57/62, but the true velvets from dimarzio are cheaper here in my country. I'm curious if anybody has tried them. I know dimarzio tries to improve vintage pickups trying to get the best from new tech and vintage sounds.
As I'm not a rich man the money difference is important to me, so I want to know the opinion of people who may have tried those true velvets.
I really like sparkling tones, that's why I was fascinated with the 57/62 set, but If the Dimarzios have that sparkle too I guess I could give them a try. What do you think?
Thanks to anybody!

Re: Dimarzio true velvets

Well, I couldn't find any reviews, and I haven't used them myself, but I did listen to the sound clip Dimarzio provided. Sounds like a pretty standard Strat pickup with some of that Dimarzio MSG sprinkled on it. Compared to the Fenders I'd say they'll be a little more refined and controllable, especially on the upper frets, with a pronounced attack and a little less "character".

If you pick lightly and like a bright yet smooth sound they should work well.

I have a Blue Velvet in one of my Strats. The True Velvet is supposed to be almost Identical, but take this for what it is.

I don't care for single coils as a rule, but I REALLY like the Blue Velvet. To my ear, it's buttery and smooth, bright but not piercing and has a nice fluid attack with distortion and the upper frets. I'm planning to get a True Velvet for the middle position.

There is a review in the new Guitar World magazine. The "bottom line" stated that they have smooth & warm highs and tight lows but with less sparkle in the treble end compared to vintage style pickups.

I have a pair of Blue Velvets in my 95 Washburn MG 100 PRO and that about sums up my feeling about them. They blow the SSL-5's that came in the guitar + the SSL-1's in my MG 120 out of the water tone wise. Very clean chimey but still full and sweet fantastic sounding pickups!!

Re: Dimarzio true velvets

How's the Blue Velvets for a Deep Purple-like tone in a Strat? I don't want an exact reproduction, only something that will take me to the ballpark. Hopefully closer to the "Anya" tone, as a reference. It's a darker, ballsy, yet Stratty tone.

I find them interesting because most vintage pickups are just too bright; I'd rather have something more toned down to match, more or less, my other guitars. Plus, Dimarzios are cheaper than those Lace Sensors, and I don't mind the hum.

Thanks mate! I've tried a blue velvet in the neck of a strat, and I really like it, but I'm frightened because sometimes brands want to improve models, like this one that now is called true velvet, and has different ohms and specs, and I think sometimes the improvement is not so good... sometimes they ruin the model... so I was asking if someone tried the new version.

I really like the sparkling tone of a vintage bridge pickup on a strat, so I don't want to lack brightness...

I'm considering buying the 3 pickups the same, not the true velvet bridge because it has a few more ohms and that means is bit more hot so it will have less brights...

Thanks to all for replying, and hope to get more suggestions!
