Never tried any of 'em, though I have got a lot of realtime experience with diffent kinds of DiMarzios. So what are you looking for? What do you play? Guitar specs? Why not Duncans?

:D

dont go to dimarzio!!!!
it'll all go down hill from there!!

come, to the house that seymour built!

I've played 'em all...

Air Zone: Good distorsion tones with this... lots of mids and a good chunk sound. The 'air' thing is definately an improvement over the normal tonezone... gives it more 'life' or 'expression' if you will. The lead tones though, are still gonna make you sound like every other 80's shred guitarist.

Norton: Not 'big' enough for me, a nice nasty tone to it though. Again, i feel the Air Norton is a better choice though i think it should be reserved for the neck position where i reckon it sounds best.

Breed: Great Bridge pickup for a modernised PAF tone... if that makes any sense. Steve Vai used this a lot on the Fire Garden album, check it out... one song i know he used it one was 'The Crying Machine'... download it or something. Somehow Vai made the neck position Breed sound good too... however when i played one in the neck i didn't think it compared to say... a Duncan '59. But the Breed in the bridge definately does it's job.

Hope i've helped... but if you want 'real' advice on pickups, best state the sound you're aiming for.

I have an Air Norton/AirZone coming for my wolfgang. According to the DiMarzio site the Air Norton / TONEZONE is the closest combo to the VanHalen Musicman Guitar (Axis) pickups. I tried a TZ a while ago and didn't like it then (in a different guitar), but I feel pretty confident that this combo in a wolfgang should work very well. Best advise is to try them if it doesnt work, exchange them (I believe they have a 31 day exchange policy.......Seymour why only 21 days on your exchange policy??)

Regards

yeah i should have listed what i am going for:6:

I want a gibson type of sound from a ibanez?
you say the BREED is good for that?
you say a modernized PAF?
could it be said that a BREED is the best bet for a ibanez RG if you want a old jimmy page, clapton, vanhalen tone?
I really like the more older tones like them guys.
i know they all used a gibson PAF which in my guitar would sound like poo!
what i want is a clean articulate tone
but with some power at the same time,i hate distortion class pups:puke:
they all have that peaked to the max frequency that makes them sound nasal and honky!

Dude, you're totally desbribing the CC! Really, you should get one, I think it would totally nail that tone.

I had a CC in a very bright strat and it did not fit your description at all,it is not clean,it has a lot of mids and has a very compressed tone. not at all P.A.F:rolleyes:

I have used the Air Zone and Breed bridge.

Both are great pickups. The Air Zone has a BIT more highs than the Breed which has a BIT more mids and comes off as very very slightly warmer.

I find both pickups to be clear, warm, powerful and musical with lots of midrange content. Big sounding in the context of a band. Great for single notes.

The best comparasin I can make with a Duncan is the JB, but the JB has a bit more highs than either of those DiMarzios. But overall the pickups are voiced very similarly.

If i were going for Dimarzio's, i'd probably go with an Air Classic Bridge Model... in the Neck. And then a Breed bridge model in the bridge.

For the middle i'd go with a VV Heavy Blues Dimarzio pup.

You won't get the Van Halen tones... but the Breed can go pretty higher in scream than a normal PAF so you'll get the same vibe. Classic LP tones should be possible.

What do you mean by big sounding in the context of a band? That is how I feel about the Duncan C-5.

I have the Breeds in my Jem, and they don't sound anything like Duncans at all.

They're kind of like a PAF on steroids, but they're very high output. The bass it tight and tuneful, and it's pretty well balanced. The treble is a bit forward.

I think the pickup works great for lead work and single string lines over riffing; it can get a little messy unless your technique is up for it.

It will REALLY drive your amp into distortion, tho, and it loves to be played loud, Loud, LOUD.

Overall, I like it, but only for specific applications.
