I think the thread title is misleading... Of course for that kind of stuff, EMG's are going to suck compared to somethinkg like a VHPAF.

I'd like to hear some technicalDM, tho :laugh2:

For that kind of playing the VHPAF definitely works great, but as jeff suggested it won't do you any good when playing more technical and more extrem stuff.
But definitely an improvement compared to the old EMG tone.

There is no SD equivalent - the only pickup that sounds like a DiMarzio VHPAF is a DiMarzio VHPAF. That goes the same for basically every pickup ever. Why people want an equivalent pickup from difference manufacturers is beyond me.

serpahim, i suggest before you ditch EMGs you should try and buy the accessories, the RPC,SPC,EXG
they give you options which make the pickups much more alive, it's not the same as an EQ pedal, because it actually changes the sound of the pickup, and not the signal itself.
I actually don't like that VHPAF tone, too messy somewhat

I love the 81/85 combo in my Hellraiser. I play my other guitars now just to keep them from getting too jealous. Never tried anything from DiMarzio, though, just SD & EMG.
