Hey, can anyone here tell me which Mimarzio pickups are close to or better than a jb/Jazz set? Invader? Distourtion?

DiMarzio's low output buckers don't even compare with Duncans. Duncans reign supreme in that area. The only two awesome pickups DiMarzio has that Duncan doesn't have anything like are the Fast Track 2 and Super Distortion. Awesome pickups.

I'd say that the FRED sounds closest to the JB, only its more of a lower midrange spike. Dunno bout anything else...
Dimarzio makes some good products, I just tend to like Duncans more.

Dimarzio's are very modern sounding and Duncans are more vintage voiced. One's not better than the other, or simular, in any way. It's all personal preference.

If you look for a classic combo like a JB & Jazz, i would suggest a Super Distortion & PAF (or a Humbucker from Hell)
Which doesn't mean that this combo is close to the duncans, but could be compared from their types (high output bridge & low output neck pickups)

the JB has been compared numerous times with the Tone Zone... they say that the TZ is Dimarzio's answer to the JB... hehehe... although to me, they sound completely different from each other. the JB concentrates more on the high end as the TZ, more on the low end. but they both have that midrange spike that everyone seem to love. i love soloing with the JB. the harmonics jump out easily... while the TZ adds a lot of "meat" in riffs and power chords. i wonder if they could make a hybrid of the two.

I played an Air Norton (neck) and Tone Zone (bridge) combo that really worked well.

Those two pickups sound nothing alike....people must be smoking some good stuff if they think they are similar in tone.....
If you want the JB....get the JB...there is no Dimarzio equivalent...at least that I've come across.

If you want the JB....get the JB...there is no Dimarzio equivalent...at least that I've come across.

People suggest those combos all the time.....it's a ****ty suggestion IMO cause every guitar is different. It's just the generic.."oh I don't really know what to suggest so I'll say what everyone else says..." type of thing....

I agree. A generic suggestion is not worth much in my books...
I'm currently loving my Super Distortion bridge and PAF Pro Neck combo in my RG750... wow! Tone City and such creamy sustain. It's a brand new guitar to me now!
I can't wait to hear the MegaDrive in my other 750... trying to decide on a neck pup tho... thinking Full Shred or Breed Neck...

Yeah....the SuperD is a favorite of mine....it's a great sounding pickup that is meaty and full. I love the way it sounds in a Les Paul....just has a lot of punch and balls.
I think you'll like the Megadrive...it's a bit more cutting on the upper end than the SuperD and a bit more aggressive too. I found it to be very clear but not nasally in any way in my super-strat I had it in.

Well, I love my ToneZone. And I have loved DiMarzio PAFs and PAF Pros. As a matter of fact, this Blues Saraceno will be my first Duncan!! I have always used DiMarzios and I will tell you why. I came of age in the '80s. Satriani played DiMarzios and quite frankly, when I was 18-20...I really wanted to be Satriani. So, I became a DiMarzio guy. HS series pickups, Fast Tracks...all DiMarzio.
My Predator has a Tone Zone that I put in. The guitar was bright, really bright with the J-90C. I went to Guitar Center for a pickup. I was going to put a Screamin' Demon in it...just because the pickup appeals to me. However, the GC "guru" suggested either a JB or a DiMarzio Super Distortion. Something darker than a SD. He, like me, was a DiMarzio guy. I thought I was buying the Super, but the guy put an F spaced Tone Zone in by accident. So, I put it in the guitar anyway. I knew nothing about it.
Man, what a difference. It totally smoothed that guitar out...just fat and creamy and it can handle as much gain as you want to throw at it. Really, a great pickup. I can't complain about that pickup.

I'm looking forward to it!! It should happen this weekend and I'll post a review... I didn't like the MegaDrive in the Charvel that it was in whe I bought the Charvel (If that makes any sense...) but my buddy has it in his Snow (Old Canadian made guitar built with Kramer Parts... it's odd but it rocks) and it cuts like nothing else. I'm hoping it sounds as good in my RG.
Anyone have neck pup suggestions? Something kinda PAF-y but solid... and different than another PAF PRo...
