Dimebucker or Blackouts?

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

The DS-1 is a great box. Set your amp up for your rythm tone and use the DS-1 as a boost for solos. Works a treat. Just set the DS-1 gain way down low.

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

If I was looking at metal amps for under a grand Id look at Peavey 6505 or used 5150s...

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

Or if you want a single amp that will do Metal, Rock and a sweet clean...buy a B-52 either the 100 watt head or 100 watt 2-12 combo witch is the same head in a combo.
Make sure it has a fan in it though as a lot of the ones without fans had heating issues.

BTW the Dimebucker didn't sound so great in a Gibson SG and I will let you know my thoughts on the Blackouts very soon.
I was very dissapointed in the EMG's that come in a Schecter Hellraiser as they sound very dull and artificial with little definition.

Doen't ALL active EMG's sound like that all the time ?

To my ears, you can drop a set of Active EMG's into ANY guitar, and they will INSTANTLY sound like any other EMG loaded guitar, REGARDLESS of the scale length, neck & body woods. IMHO.
EMGusersYMMV...

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

i dont think i can afford an expensive marshall at the moment
(othrewise i would have bought an expensiv guitar rather than the ex260..)

OK.. so i guess i should save money for a decent amp like a Marshall JVM.. or Randall something.... n ive decided not to change me pus now.. first save for a great amp..

by the way .. should i get a famous/well reputed distortion pedal or an overdrive pedal? right now i have a boss ds1 distortion pedal..

someone mentioned somethign about overdrive pdeal...

No need to sell your soul to get Marshall's flagship right now.

A used Marshall DSL/TSL will DEFF do too . . . IF you are into the Marshall sound. many good deals on those in eVillebay & CList.
Sooooo many times i nearly pulled the trigger on a used DSL50, but my fav Marshall is the VintageModern 50W head.

And do not worry about an expensive guitar.
I love buying affordable models and hot rodding them.

Most dirt boxes out there in pedal-land is "famous" these days, even boteek stuff is famous, for better or worst !
I too have a stock DS-1 (please do not tell Empty Pocket's this, he'll have a field day :friday:...), but value for money, metal-tone wise, it is a GREAT pedal. I bought mine used for $30.00, and it was only 2weeks old.
Hope this helps.

Could be...only have experience with the stock EMG's in the Hellraier.
The guitar I am putting Blackouts in had EMG's stock and the original owner took them out and replaced with alnico 2/59.
With zero guitars in stock locally with Blackouts, I can't say if there better yet but in the online comparisons they sound less muddy, less artificial, and the tone seems better.

Truth throughout! DSL's are pretty sick for metal tones. Most of the late 90's early 00's hardcore punk bands i was into in high school used DSL's or Mesa Boogies...

Nicer guitars are goood but they're not as important to your overall tone. A Squier plugged into a Marshall Plexi stack is gonna sound a lot better than a $5000 Custom Shop Les Paul plugged into an MG15.

MY DS-1 is modded (i'm sure SlowGroove will catch up eventually:smokin:) but when i use it to boost my Big Muff Pi it's a really really thick and heavy heavy tone. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but it's awesome.

Not all DSL's evidently because I tried a 40 combo and it was a terrible amp for any genre and the B-52 100 watt combo absolutely killed it in every single respect for metal, rock or cleans at half the price...and it needed no pedals to do so.

I went into that comparison biased because I had never heard of B-52 at the time and figured the Marshall would be an easy winner....but it was absolutely no contest.

Never tried any of the bigger DSL's which may very well be great amps but the DSL 40 combo is a terrible amp IMO.

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

DSL 40 uses EL84s...not gonna get metal there, but the 50's and 100s use EL34s, and will def get you into metal territory.

Re: Dimebucker or Blackouts?

Ok, got the blackouts in and can say that they do sound a lot more like passives with a supercharger as compared to EMG's muddy sound.

The best part is I finally got a third guitar that my son will actually play.

It was really sad seeing that SG sit around collecting dust for two years but I guess he didn't like the neck on it.
The EC 1000 that I traded for the SG sounds really good with the Blackouts and I also recently heard one of the new Schecters that come with Blackouts instead of EMG's...and it also sounded fantastic.
