Dimebucker questions

I want to put a dimebucker in my schecter c1 blackjack. It has a JB right now which I don't like and isn't aggressive enough for me. The guitar is mahagany, set thru, string thru. I play rhythm only and want extreme chugg with good clarity as well. Can the dimebucker do that, I play through a PODXT with the metal pack. I play mostly NY style hardcore like madball and hatebreed, I also like sworn enemy and stuff like that. Is there a diff pup that will do what I'm looking for. I have used a dist., screaming demon, JB and custom custom.

I've tried the Dimebucker in a bunch of Ibanez RG, Kramer Focus, LTD M-100, etc.... style guitars, and didn't like it.

However, in a Dean ML, it's pretty nice. It's a set neck, 24.75" scale, mahogany guitar, unlike all the other stuff I tried. I've been thinking about giving one a shot in my Ibanez SZ.

If a JB or a Distortion does not have enough for ya, its time to go active. Try a Duncan Livewires heavy Metal. Probally has double the output of ANYTHING in existance! Yes, probally double the output of the EMG81.

Try the Duncan Custom. I have tried the pickup in a Schecter C1 and it sounded great! In fact, I may pull out the C5 and put the Dime back in.

I'd say stay away from the dimebucker. It is a cutting lead pickup but there are beefier pickups for chunky rhythm available.

Most of those Hatebreed type of bands are EMG users.

Check out the new Duncan Blackouts. They absolutely slay EMGS. I've already put a few sets in my guitars. If you want ultimate crunch go with the regular ceramic magnet bridge blackout. If you want more beef and chunk then go with the alnico 5 filled neck blackout and put it in the bridge position.

Another option is the Livewires. But they are really hot and might overload the front of your POD input.

I think you'll be disappointed with the dimebucker....just my opinion but it's probably too bright and thin for the POD.

I want to stay away from actives, I have some in my ESP and I just didn't like them, kind of a one trick pony in my opinion. What about a full shred or Invader?

The Invader has great chug but, most think it has the worst clarity. I tend to agree. The Full Shred has great clarity and great chug, I dont know why I didnt suggest that initially. :smack:

Actually, its a great idea for what you want.

Well, since you play rhythm, the Invader may work too? For chords the Invader sounds HUGE and mean. It tends to get lost when playing single notes. You could sell the actives and put the Invader in one guitar and the FS in the other. They are similar in the way they have great chug and drive but, are opposites when it comes to clarity and EQ.

The Dimebucker is kind of thin, so I wouldn't recommend it for chug stuff.

The Invader is kind of missing some harmonic richness, which contributes to its lack of clarity.

I'd go with Full Shred, Distortion, Custom, or DiMarzio X2N.

If you want to go active, go with EMG 81 or 85.

Sounds like maybe the full shred would do the trick since I also like to strum my chords and then do single pick runs with the chords so I would like the clarity to be there too.

I second the DiMarzio X2N for your rig...really high-output, has the double-rail look of a Dimebucker, and the EQ is supposed to be flat so you can really dial in the tone from your POD. Not to mention that one X2N coil is a little hotter than your typical Strat single coil...so if you install a coil-split switch you can go from full-on high-tilt humbucker madness then flip a switch and go to Strat-style single coil cleanness. Then you've got your crunch when you want it, and your clarity when you need it.

Plus if you try it and tell us it sounds good, then I'll be more confident about putting one in my Gibson

I think the X2N would be too high output for the POD, Line6 stuff doesn't like high-output pickups. My LWHMET sounds like GOD through tube amps but ass through Line6 ****...really tells you what you have there :laugh2:

You know, when I had a pod I had this expereince too. I had a Full Shred at the time that worked well with it though.
