Dimebucker vs Parallel Axis Distortion

which has more metal authority and aggressive voicing? not death, black, hair, or nu-metal per se, but just old school headbanging stuff like Metal Church, Anvil, Megadeth, Armoured Saint, Laaz Rocket, Overkill, etc.

this would be for a single humbucker, mahogany, neck-thru Soloist with an ebony fingerboard and Kahler 2315 trem.

thanks :beerchug:

Re: Dimebucker vs Parallel Axis Distortion

I'd say the Dimebucker. I think it's specs make it work for both ebony and rosewood. Trying the P.A. Distortion with an ebony neck would spell trouble due to the increased treble, unless you're lookin' for that. The mahogany may mitigate some of that brightness, but you've still got that neck-thru maple so...

Other than that, they both can create old-school metal anarchy.

Get a dimebucker, then flip it. You'll love that stuff.

actually it has mahogany sides and neck, but yeah this Soloist is a tad bright due to the neck-thru construction. still nice and thick.

does the Dimebucker have a good "grindy" quality when using distortion? it's my understanding that blade humbuckers have a more "smoother" quality. I'm looking for that rude crunchy grind like on Peace Sells or No Remorse.

thanks!

I've heard that about flipping it. what does this do to the tone, add more edge?

thanks :smokin:

Re: Dimebucker vs Parallel Axis Distortion

Having used both i my rhoads, I´d have to say the PATB-2... a tad hotter, crunchier and overall just "raunchier" than the Dimebucker, brighter and more aggressive as well.

Re: Dimebucker vs Parallel Axis Distortion

i've played thru both and,as far as grind goes, the patb-2 is has the meanest f**kin grind i've ever heard.i bought the patb-2 back about 4 years ago,and it's funny, because the one thing that i remember most about it was the GRIND that it had.i'm serious.i did some heavy grinding D & E chords(i.e. old Accept-songs like:balls too the wall, fight it back, neon knights, etc)and the grind that this pickup put out had me hooked forever on that part of the overall tone.it was too high output for my taste, though.the dimebucker is really good too,but i thought it was too shrill in the upper end for my taste.grind, grind, grind!!! pabt-2 f**kin' killer for metal! 80's style or thrash/death/doom! :)
