dimebucker vs. xl500

Re: dimebucker vs. xl500

I liked his tone on Goddamn Electric!! Man if that was a Dimebucker.....HOLY SH>>>>>>>>>>>>TTT. Im thinking of buying the Lawrences still when I sell my 498 490...which is pretty soon. Though I'll have to take out my EMGS and im totally happy with them.

Honestly though.....I didn't like his tone on Damageplan.

Re: dimebucker vs. xl500

I have now compared the Dimebucker to the XL500 (pre Feburary 05 XL500). Heres a preliminary review.

Both of them have a similar sound. The dimebucker is a tad darker, has a little more bass, and a tad bit more distortion than the XL500. The XL500 has alot more cut/clarity and has great singing leads compared to the dimebucker. The Dimebuckers leads are great also. They are the heavy distorted kind of leads though. The XL500 seems to clean up when you are playing leads (I have noticed a simialr quality in a JB's leads) The XL500 might be a tad on the tighter side also compared to the dimebucker.

I plan on testing them more in the near future and I may be able to go more in depth at that point.

I need to get one of the new XL500's (Post feb 2005) and try that also. They are supposed to have Alnico 5 magnets instead of the ceramics. That will be a really cool shoot out.

I have a feeling that sliughtly darker tone from the Dime is due to it being a wrap around hardtail vs a Floyd...sounds like in the same axe, they would be pretty close...but there has to be some difference or why would Dime jump ship on Bill and crew???

Hence the future testing. I still think the Dime will have more distortion to it though. If I have time, I am going to do it this weekend!!

Stay posted folks.

Cutting and pasting a bunch of stuff from Dime is irrelevant to which is better. Every endorser says their stuff is the best. Dime obviously thought the 500XL was good enough to use for how long...10 years or something until he got paid to put his stamp on the dimebucker. I'm not saying either one is better, just decide from someone who has compared, or even better, from your own comparison.

VERY WELL STATED! :)
