Direct mounting single coils to a body

Aquired a couple of plexiglass mounting rings from E-bay,
but they're a foot thick, not to mention pretty cheesy looking to boot,

Time for plan B.

I've seen the Ibby/ Charvel/ Washburn screw-the pickup-into the body deal,
But I'm not real keen on that either, the wood seems to strip pretty easily.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

that was kinda my question too.

i am gonna mount a single coil on my rear route body and i want to know how to do it.

also will it change the tone?

How about just do the normal way of putting foam under it and screwing it in to the body? When the hole strips just fill it with wood glue and start again. I've got a basswood guitar with the middle single coil direct mounted to the wood like this and I've had it for 2 years in which I've had to take that pickup off several times without any problem. Just don't overtighten it because the screw can only go so far before you're just stripping the hole, but this shouldnt apply to this anyways because you're most likely not going to be screwing the pickup tight down to the wood, if you are you need deeper routes.
