Been having a blast with the new Dirty Deed distortion pedal!
I have always gotten my distortion from my amp throughout the 80's and 80's. I played Marshalls in the 80's and I switched to Fender in the mid 90's.
Living in apartments and duplexes the past 13 years or so has seriously curtailed my use of non master volume amps for practicing and recording.
So, I switched to Line 6 whenever they came out and started to use that for several years... that experience left me wanting better tone badly!
Then, I started to look into distortion pedals again and called up my friends and borrowed as many different pedals that I could and had fun trying them with my blackface Fenders.
Figured out which designs I was grooving with and decided on a Marshall-In-a-Box from a German pedal manufacturer. Started GASSing for fuzz pedals after talking with Agileguy too.
Then, the Dirty Deed came my way.
The pedal was something "in between" my brown sound pedal and a fuzz... WHAT?!? Is this possible? A Fuzzy distortion that also works as a sweet overdrive? Okay... I'm in.
The pedal to MY ears has: a dirty Vox vibe + vintage Marshall low mid muscle + Big Muff style fuzz
Very unique combination of tones. Yielded instant Sabbath and stoner rock goodness while also being an effective blues fuzz/overdrive.
It's one of those pedals that does a few things quite well and would be welcome on any guitarists pedalboard for vintage distorted and overdriven tones.
A lot of guys feed a decent overdrive with a tiny bit of fuzz for dynamic sweetness... the Dirty Deed can do that all in one enclosure IMHO.
Danny Young does a BLISTERING demo of the pedal and he just kills it.
Danny Young works with Scott Olson and is a remarkably talented guitarist from the UK. Check out his youtube channel and subscribe to his stuff, he has lots of great content!
So, we know about the video I did for the Dirty Deed and if you haven't seen it, check it out here.
JeffB wanted to hear just the pedal + guitar+ amp + room mics and so here is some stuff that didn't make the video and ended up on the cutting room floor.
First is just the guitar in a room. I think I may have one more sample like this and I'll upload it when I get the chance but for now here is the jammin' riff in Black Sabbath and the 1st solo for NIB.
I also cut a song sketch into a decent musical short piece. This is tuned down to dropped B, so we can hear what it sounds like detuned.
