Hi, i saw those gibson dirty fingers pickup, and i heard good things about them.
did someone ever tryed the reissue ones??? how do the sound compared to jb?

I have heard that the reissues are the same, and that they aren't as good. Iwill point out that "back in the day" concistency on pups was a questionable thing. It's more likely that the recent ones are all the same, or really close. If that's a good thing or not depends on if you are comparing it to a vintage gem, regular, or junk version...and your taste of course. I have also heard from a number of people who don't like them. Research this carefully. I can't say from personal experience.

The guitars they put them in were crappy too. I had a 1985 Flying V EXP that NO pickup could make sound good...What a piece of crap. I can also think of SO many better p'ups to put in your guitar than a stinkin' Dirty Fingers... namely a Duncan Custom. What a great ceramic pickup!

I'm not saying there aren't good DF's out there. I'm saying I don't know how to tell which ones are, and opinions vary. I'll agree that you got one that sucks if you say so.

I currently own 3 and a half vintage Dirty Fingers, the newest one being from 1983. The 3 whole ones sound awesome as did a 4th one I had years ago.

I can't speak for the new ones, but the old ones are worth the $$ you have to shell out for them.

+1 on all counts, Pinto.... Dirty Fingers are some of my favorite pickups, surprisingly enough for use in the neck....

I have a Kalamazoo made Explorer from 1981 that came stock with the Dirty Fingers. I replaced them for a short time with Classic Plus. I also tried a full shred in the bridge for about 2 minutes. I ended up returning the guitar to the stock Dirty Fingers as I thought they sounded the best to my ear in that guitar. I never did measure them, anyone got specs on these?

It was probably the guitar then. The DF was the worst sounding of the bunch that I put in but I never tried it in another guitar so I'm assuredly wrong on the DF. The chimes of fellow DF users confirm this to me...I should have tried it in something else. That guitar just plain sounded crummy. It had the tone of "8 bit digital clip the red distortion". Yeow. Pardon the slam of the dirty fingers...I should have known it was the axe.

I just pitched a set of Dirty Fingers from my 1981 335-S. As Zerb said, the neck pickup is actually nice and thick, but the bridge pickup was very thin and crispy sounding. There was way so much low end loss on the low E, I really don't know why i put up with it for so long. A switch to another set of pickups vindicated the build quality of the instrument, and pointed the horrible tone of the bridge pickup squarely toward the Dirty Fingers.

Amazingly, the "both pickups selected" tone in the middle pickup position was where I played this guitar for nearly twenty years.

Hey Zerb! I am a pack-rat, so I have no intention of selling...but what are the$e going for? These two were from a factory coil split guitar, so each coil has its own braided harness.
