discharging a champ 600

Okay, so i always read people saying
"'if you don't know how to discharge the capacitors in an amp, DON'T mess around with it!"

I understand that amps deal with high voltages, deadly voltages, and that they aren't something to just fool around with. The problem is, i never see anyone saying HOW to discharge the capacitors so that it is safe to 'poke around' in the amp.

I recall reading in the instructions for a Metro Amps jtm-45 kit that you can turn the power off without switching it to standby, and the caps will slowly discharge themselves. Well, i don't know if this works for every amp, and even if it does, what if your amp doesn't have a standby?? I'd be interested in taking a look around my Fender Champion 600, but i want to do it safely. Can you guys help me out?
