dist pedals

Re: dist pedals

I've got a Fulldrive II Mosfet and a Hotcake right now, oh and a Tweak Fuzz. I want some heavier gain as they are great pedals, but not enough that really saturated crunch. I'm THINKING of getting a combination of a plexitone and ac-tone or a crunchbox/modded DS-1 and a AC-tone. But i really dunno. Would a Plexitone and a AC Tone just be too much. I've got limited space on my board too. HMMM.

What would you guys recommend. If i were to choose one of those distortion pedals, considering the overdrive pedals i own already.

Re: dist pedals

If it were me, I'd probably keep the fulldrive II and get a crunchbox. You should have all of the Marshall sounding tones covered at that point.

Re: dist pedals

oh ok, so its just a drive?
uhhhh, would i be set with say a crunch box, and my fdii and the hotcake then? I shouldn't need another drive right?

Re: dist pedals

:( but i can't try em out. Hahah.
Okay, who has a hotcake. Who can sorta compare it with the AC-Tone in terms of the style of OD?

Re: dist pedals

From my understanding the AC Tone is designed to sound something like a driven Vox AC-30, hence its name. If that's something you're specifically after, then it may or may not do it well, I haven't heard one. The Carl Martin stuff I have heard is not to my personal taste, they have sounded clinical and kinda hard, but these newer pedals could be great. It keeps coming back to the Crunch Box, but my suggestion would still be to add a Blues Pro as well for the styles you want to play. Between those two pedals I think you would find that the Hotcake doesn't even get a look in, and your Fulldrive would get dusty in the corner, unless you wanted that extra stage and the boost.

MI Audio mate. There's a reason why you don't hear about anyone's "modded Crunch Box."

Cheers......................wahwah

Re: dist pedals

I see. I know MI Audio pedals are great and i am definitely supporting them. But i just like having different looking pedals on my board. I know it sounds dumb, but it's just me. I'll prob just sit with the Crunchbox.

In terms of the AC-Tone, is it supposed to give an even AC style OD/dist to say a blues junior. I know it won't be the same as a Vox, but is it such that the way the drive and dist is created, it'll make that iconic AC30 drive through say a blues junior?

Re: dist pedals

tons of marshall/stack-in-a-box pedals out there primarily for lead and rock/hard rock stuff.

again, many flavors of distortion for all sort of hard hitting music.

some extreme distortion pedals are dna analogic gainfxxker II, metal zone, tri-metal, t-rex bloody mary, monster sound mastortion, coffin case blood drive, h&k warp factor etc. these jokers are usually scooped sounding with lots of highs on tap. probably the warp factor is the odd one out since it has lots of low for the classic nu-metal sound.

lesser gain distortion pedals offers more control and a more ear pleasing crunch. examples are krank distortus maximus, subdecay blackstar etc.

at the end of the day, its all about searching for the right pedal to get the tone in your head.
