Distortion 8 - direct mount only?

I recently purchased a new Duncan Distortion 8 bridge to replace the Dimarzio Ionizer in my Ibanez tam10. It was all running smoothly until I went to attach the new pickup to the pickguard.

The mounting holes in the distortion are too large for both the supplied mounting screws and the existing screws. The Distortion came with short wood screws and bit of foam. This would work fine if I was direct mounting the pickups to the body, the problem is the Tam 10 has a pickguard. I need the screws the thread through the metal tabs on the pickup.

So the only idea I have left is to find 3-48 brass nuts and solder them onto the tabs. The only bummer is 3-48 brass nuts are hard to find in the uk.

Is this pretty standard or have I just gotten a strange pickup? I've never had this problem before, but then again all the other guitars I've owned have been direct mount.

I also sent an email to Seymour Duncan customer service but haven't heard back.
