Distortion/Invader Hybrid...Good Idea?

Re: Distortion/Invader Hybrid...Good Idea?

It acts as a "low pass" filter and the cap values help pass certain frequencies to the amp and sends others to ground. That 223 actually means 22,000 pico farad and it is "passing" a S%$tload of bass to the amp of which all Invader owners know the Invader has a lot of. Changing the cap to 150 or even 100 pico, will definitely tighten up the bass ALOT. Try changing the 223 and leave the one on the volume knob. If that doesn't sound good enough, replace the one on the volume to tone knob with a wire. The 150 pico is just what the doctor ordered for the Invader.
I think removing the cap will pass all frequencies to the amp. It could sound good, it could sound like crap.

Thanks, I'll try all of the above.

Re: Distortion/Invader Hybrid...Good Idea?

I looked at the stewmac site under the duncan wiring. The volume/tone circuit pictured differs from mine a little. The lead linking them together is on different legs. Does this matter or should I change mine to reflect the picture?

Re: Distortion/Invader Hybrid...Good Idea?

I would probably leave it like it is and if it sounds no good change it up. I have noticed that Ibanez has a different way of wiring than alot of other guitar companies. That tone circuit in the stewmac website does work as I use it as a reference. It isn't the only way though so leave yours and try it that way first. It'll save you some headache. BTW do you have a single coil in your pickup configuration? If so, the cap on the volume knob could be taming the highs on it.:smokin:

No single coil, just H-H config. I'm planning on a Strat in the future for my single coil needs. I just wanted a shredder axe, too.

Try it with the volume cap, if no likeee take it off, replace it w/ a wire, and just use the 150 pico on the tone knob.
