Distortion neck with Custom bridge

How would the SH-6n go with the SH-5 in the bridge of a Les Paul?

Playing mostly D-standard/ drop-C, stoner rock, sludge, hardcore, fuzzed-up riffs.

I was considering a 59n (or maybe 59b) with the Custom, or possibly a PGn, but as I was browsing, I wondered if I might be better with a little less bass in the neck?

I can't imagine this would be bad in any way. If you want less bass, the SH-6n would be a great choice, especially if tuned low like that. I think it is a better choice than the PG, just because of the lower tuning and kind of music.

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

Thanks, I want the fat bass in the bridge, where I normally play for more of a tight sound, but I wondered if the 59 might be too flabby running through a Bass Big Muff on the same amp settings. I should be saving up for my wedding, but I'm sure I can find the cash for the new pickups :-)

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

I don't know if I've ever heard the '59 described as flabby. I think you will be fine.

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

Well, the 59 was my first choice, and it seems to be the most popular fit with the Custom, so should I just stick with trend & true?

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

Not like thrash and modern metal stuff, so much as Fu Manchu, any band with John Garcia, and the kind of Southern Metal bits of Pantera, Cancer Bats, Down, Corrosion of Conformity, etc.

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

I don't think that you'll have any problems. You'll like it. A lot.

Re: Distortion neck with Custom bridge

Having listened to a few more clips, I think the SH-6n is maybe too "modern" for what I wanted. Sounds good though.
