Distortion pedal with tube sound?

Hey guys, could you recommend like a distortion pedal that could give me more of a tube sound and feel running through my POD? I'd appreciate it. :)

Re: Distortion pedal with tube sound?

The new SD pedal is a true tube pedal so it could probably give you the tube touch you want. But I'm not sure if it has that much gain...

The pickup booster should solve the gain problem. :-D

Tube pedals? I'm assuming they have tubes in them.

What if something happens, can you replace them? Are they the same ones used in amps? And should these be used with tube amps or are a way of adding something to a solid state?

Sorry for the hijack but I've never heard of this.

To be honest I already have enough gain/distortion as it is, although it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more hehe. Someone once said I should put a pedal like the zakk wylde mxr infront of my POD because it would give the POD more of a tube sound on top of what I already have, but of course I wanted to ask you guys more about it first before jumping straight into it. Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds like it might be what I need. I'll check it out.

Oh and something else that caught my eye is the Ibanez Tubescreamer. What do you guys think of that?

Re: Distortion pedal with tube sound?

Mesa V-Twin ... but it´s more of a preamp than a "distortion pedal" ;)

Re: Distortion pedal with tube sound?

What you're looking for is an overdrive pedal which is not the same as a distortion pedal, though similar. Putting Wylde OD, SD-1, or Tubescreamer in front of your POD will thicken sound of the distortion, gives it more punch. Try it out at the local music store. Drive to 1 Level to 10 Tone to 5.

Re: Distortion pedal with tube sound?

if you need just the tube touch ,you have to buy a preamp with tube inside.Hughes & Kettner , damage control womanizer ,mesa v twin ,tone bone is your way to go.If you like the gain to drive your pod higher ,wich i will not recommend ,you should buy a rocktron silver dragon ,or vox bulldog distortion. These are what i have tested.

The gain on my POD is perfect, everything's all set to go, I just wanted to bring it to life some. And seeing as how I'm a die hard Mesa fan and I'm trying to emulate a dual/triple rectifier tone I must check out the Mesa V-Twin!

Re: Distortion pedal with tube sound?

You might consider running a Tube Mic Pre before your pod and just slightly clip your signal through the tube pre and it should warm up the pod nicely and add more punch and warmth at the same time...

you can get the ART with 1/4" ins and outs with clip LED and and decent 12AX7 for like $50 from MF.com...

my best friend does that sometimes before his digital delay and after his drive pedals and it makes a world of difference.

although im not sure if its a healthy signal for a amp? that pres output can get real hot...

Could you say more about the differences between these pedals?

For example how do the V twin compare with the womanizer?

There are so many of them now. The ones that you mentioned, badcat 2-tone & X-treme, Siemund missing link & double drive & of course the new SD SFX-03 (twin tube).........

Thanks
