Distortion PUP Discussion...not a Which pup do I need thread

Re: Distortion PUP Discussion...not a Which pup do I need thread

Good discussion folks..ya know I kinda forgot about this thread...ooops :D

I dropped the 500T a bit and am now able to raise the gain up to about 8 w/out the pup crappin out and the tone is even better. Xeromus is on the money there.

Matt, sorry for the delay. Glad it worked out for ya. Honestly I don' see the prob folks have with the 500T as a rock/metal pickup. That said, with amp gain not so high, I can get a hella Billy Gibbons type tone outta it  I'm still debating whether to put a DiMarzio SuperD or a Duncan Custom in it or not. Sounds damn good as is.

As for the TS..not in front of this amp I have not. But I'm considering it as an option. One thing about the Rivera Chubsters lead boost is that it boosts bass and treble frequencies as well as gain..with most of my guitars it sounds great, but with the 500T it' a bit too much gain and gets mushy. I think a TS could give me the slight gain/sustain boost I need without getting over the top. I'm sure it would sound incredible through this particular amp/guitar combo, as its very similar to setups I've had in the past.

heh, to get my tele to distort when it was stock, i had to use a noise gate, compressor, the highest gain setting on the amp, max trebble and bass while cutting mids, then play agressivly.

This setting with my EMG's on my BC Rich would sound like satan himself is playing. Actually, my speaker will be belching the fires of hell. And its still clear and sounds good :).

So, no I don't agree. High output+Super high gain=Still sounds good if your pickup is worth a ****.

Re: Distortion PUP Discussion...not a Which pup do I need thread

Hi JeffB you dropped the 500T? MEaning you set the height of the pickup a little lower?

Like for example the X2N a massive output pickup people tell us mean the Dimarzio site tells us to drop the level for the pickup to achieve it's sound ......

By the way is it good to have a pickup which more K? as in for example the motherbuckers or ultra distortions by kent armstrong not sure if you heard of them... s it good to have more k? or the K doesn't distiguish the pickups sound ? what is the K? for? is it the output level or the ?..... i get to many answers but not shraight one....

sorry of the off the topic!
