Re: Distortion vs. Distortion...
The frequency response (or "EQ") is an irrelevant detail.
The Super Distortion ("SuperD") is a lower class wind, possibly awg43, wind but it has hex polepieces in both rows.
The Duncan Distortion ("DD") is a high wind with awg44 wire and it has PAF-style polepieces.
The SuperD is much more articulate (or assertive) due to the hex polepieces. The SuperD has an unusually wide dynamic range, it can sound pretty close to low-wind pickups and it can be a very decent screamer.
The DD is fatter all the way but has a characteristic treble spike that sets it apart from other high-gain ceramic pickups.
The SuperD does, in theory, require a large piece of wood such as a Les Paul to drive it, but of course that doesn't really matter with enough gain. A SuperD in a heavy pig Les Paul Custom can be an unbeatable combination for some things.
The DD should be better in tremolo guitars with anything but high gain.

The DD can take a normal humbucker cover, which might be a factor. Some people are grumpy with Dimarzio for political reasons, which might be another one.
Overall you could argue that the SuperD does medium-gain allround classic guitar rock better, but as I said it requires the right guitar for that. The DD is more of a modern metal pickup.
I think I once expressed it as the SuperD being better if you fight another guitarist (more dynamic range) and the DD is better if you have to defend yourself against the mad keyboarder such as found in modern epic metal bands (fat with high-mods/treble spike that is hard to overcome).
