Distortion vs Gibson Dirty Fingers

Gibson released Dirty Fingers not too long ago and they say that it's one badass pup. Tom DeLonge from Blink-182 uses it in his Gibson signiture model. I'm not a fan of the band but he said that the Gibson Dirty Fingers is perfect for nu metal. How does it compare to the Distortion? :question:

Tom DeLonge is a dumbass. He uses a hot-as-hell pickup into a Mesa Rectifier for a not very dirty sound. I wouldn't take his word about ANYTHING regarding gear.

Anywho, I think Zerb said awhile back that if you take the oxide caps out of an Invader, and replace them with screws, it's VERY similar to a Dirty Fingers. The Distortion with a couple extra magnets would be close, too.

The Dirty Fingers was originally released sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. You can find them in old E/2 explorers. IIRC, John Sykes used them for a while.

Why would it make a Metallica sound?? I wasn't aware that they used them....

only thousands of dollars of mesa equipment can make the signature metallica tone, however i did hear the dirty fingers is a good pickup. but id stick with seymour duncan, for metal get the distortion or if you want a chunkier , heavier sound get the invader.

If your looking for a nu-metal or metallica sound you would be better off with the Duncan Distortion or probably better yet EMG's 85's or 81's... I would go with any of those before the dirty fingers.

I've always found the Dirty Fingers pickups to be rather anemic. They sound okay, but I would never classify them as a high output pickup, regardless of the comments of the people that use them. I do have one in use in the neck position of an SG. It's a nice sounding pickup there. Not real high output, but gives a very nice jazzy tone.

Ditto...this is what I was thinking. The DD isn't too far off from an 81...it will definitely get you in the ballpark easy.

Dirty Fingers bridge is a single mag 500T. They are like 1400 ohms under wound compaired to a DD. Less chunk and that upper mid peak actually shifts up to be a treble peak. Is there a DF neck model? DC resistance?

There was a Dirty Fingers neck model. I have one out of an '85 V that I picked up in '90. They used them in Explorers, too. I don't know the specs on them, though, I'm sorry...
