Distortion vs. Invader

I hava a Kramer Les Paul and want to replace the pups in them. I like metal, rock, grunge, and some country stuff. Which one would be good for all those types of music? I also noticed that the Invader was a little bit higher in output than the Distortion. I always thoght that the distortion had a heavier sound. But the Invader seems to have more output. Which one would have a heavier sound? And be the best for chugging? And have the best sound for playing Metallica?

Re: Distortion vs. Invader

I would go for the distortion for versitality over the invader. The invader sounds very heavy but, it lacks alot of clarity because it is so distortion heavy. You may want to check out the custom, custom 5, custom custom and the JB also. The invader is fairly one sided, Straight balls to the wall, kick someone in the head, METAL!!!

Re: Distortion vs. Invader

Thats a pretty wide variety of musical taste there! For metal definitely the Invader would destroy but for country i`m guessing not so good! *lol*

Re: Distortion vs. Invader

For the wide varity of music that you are talking about, I would say it would be between the Custom Custom, JB, and the custom 5.

The Invader. James Hetfield used to use an Invader before switching to EMGs. I believe the Master Of Puppets album is the Invader sound. I had two of them in an old Jackson Kelly... major chugging with plenty of lows and mids! Didn't sound muddy either, IMO.

I have both, and I'd say in Mohogany, a DD would be MUCH better. The Invader would get muddy, IMO.

My DD is in Mohogany, and my Invader is in Alder. I love both, but even in Alder, the Invader puts out more low's. It's really low mids, super thick, and I love it, but not in mohog.
