Distortion

The overdrive on my amp gives a nice rock sound and the clean is very nice as well but the overdrive just isn't enough if I want to play something a bit heavier ie Metallica, Pantera. I'm getting a Duncan Custom any day now :). Does anybody know a pedal that might be suitable? If you've got soundclips of them in action that would cool as well. I also want a good bypass on it like the 1 that Marshall pedals claim to have.

Re: Distortion

A good overdrive pedal might work, a modded SD-1 or the like. A modded DS-1 might even work, too.

The Boss DS-1 brand new is only $39.99 and it's a great inexpensive pedal for distortion...The Marshall JackHammer is great also and I Use em both...

Re: Distortion

ds-1 isn't really metal oriented tho, i'd say it'd work for hard rock or punk or something along those lines...but not metal

go to www.indyguitarist.com & look for the mp3's of the pedals. I think theres a marshall/boogie mod for the metalzone.

Re: Distortion

My amp is a Marshall JTM30. Marshall don't make them anymore and it's supposed to be a vintage type tone but it does pretty good drive. Not really a metal amp though. Thanks for the tips on the pedals though. I was thinking about possibly getting a jackhammer before. What does anybody else think about it and the DS-1/ SD-1?

Depends on what amp you plug the DS-1 into and who does the mods to the pedal...Makes all the difference in the world! You don't want so much gain for 2 reasons...You're hiding your playing technique behind all the gain and you want to retain some note clarity and not have fuzzy, muddy mush for your overall tone...

Re: Distortion

Is it any good without modding it cos all of the modders that i have seen on the forum live in the US and i live in England. Not that far from Bletchley actually home of Marshall

Try it stock, you may love it...If you don't you can contact me...I've already sent 3 pedals over to the UK...1 for Doogz,Norman T,and Brow...It wasn't any big deal to send the pedals out to those guys..I bought the pedals over here in the states, modded them, and sent them out to the UK..

alright thanks. I'll give it a go. How much was it to ship it over?

Re: Distortion

Just wanted to thank the guys and see if anybody else has anything useful to say.

Re: Distortion

ibanez smash box - pretty damn good metal tone, but it gets very generic and boring after a while. a one trick pony, but a good one trick pony.

digitech metal master (the one in the X series) - heavy thick tone, with a morph knob that lets you dial in anything from brutal dark death metal, to a slighty more bright vintage tone

boss metal zone - i prefer the ibanez SB over this one cos it's too harsh and thin for my tastes and it takes too long to dial in a great tone

ibanez tubescreamer - i doubt you can ever go wrong with this one.. especially if it was modded to your tastes by stratdeluxer. same goes for every pedal that he's moding =) (which includes the OD2, DS1, SD1 etc etc)

hope it helped a little bit more

Re: Distortion

Which one? i've just searched for it and they're seems to be alot. The TS808 reissue looks a bit pricy

Re: Distortion

If you're going to get it modded, just get a TS-9.

Even if you're not getting it modded, a TS-9 is still worth the price.
