Diy build kits

Anybody know where I can find a diy guitar kit similar to a Charvel HH San Dimas Pro Mod with a rout for a Floyd Rose?
Ive done the google search thing and there are lots of places to buy Strat bodies, which a Charvel essentially is but im looking for one without a pickguard and 2 buckers direct mounted. Im not sure I can build one cheaper then I can buy one, but id like to try anyway!
Thanks!

Re: Diy build kits

I don't know if you can buy a complete kit, but there are several companies that will allow you to buy parts a la carte. I don't know if it is any cheaper than buying a guitar already assembled. In fact, it really isn't...but you can specify exactly what you want.

Re: Diy build kits

Yeah, I haven't seen many complete kits for building such a guitar, but plenty of companies make the parts. Check out KnE, Musikraft, Warmoth, and USA Custom Guitar. Or you can find guitars that have been parted out on eBay.

I believe the company that was Carvin
still sells kits
and you can choose the bridges and such on them

Yeah, I can get an actual painted Charvel from the Stratosphere eBay store for $200. That's actually pretty good. I have pickups. I'd need a good quality warmoth neck and the electronics...I think that would put me near $700-$800. That's what they go for already built. Maybe if I find some good deals I could spend a little less. But the plus is I don't have to cough up $800 in one shot either...

Re: Diy build kits

I always liked the smaller body style of the Carvin kits. I was never a big fan of their already-built guitars, though.

Looks like the carvin kit has an option for a Floyd also....
All the Kessel tragedy threads kinda scare me off of one of those though even though I know the issues were/are with the custom shop.

Re: Diy build kits

The only thing I can add, is that cheap floyds or copies of such are more of a hassle than anything if the experiences of this forum are anything to go by. 'You get what you pay for' seems most applicable for this area.

Try secondhand or through Carvin or Warmoth if they do things like that.

Re: Diy build kits

If you're planning to build a kit anyway, just buy a body and router, and make your own Floyd openings.

Actually, that's probably easier said than done. But it would make for a cool project

Im not quite THAT handy with tools!! Lol. I can do a lot but not that much.

Re: Diy build kits

It's easy. If in doubt just get a bigger hammer. Oh wait... That's how you fix a Harley not a guitar.:firedevil
