I've personally never considered a JB "thin". It doesn't have a particularly big bottom-end, but the lower mids are pretty stuffy and can get out of control easily. Then again, it does have a high-mid emphasis which offsets that.
The Tone Zone may have a slightly deeper low-end, but IMO, what makes it sound so big is that the lower mids are HUMONGOUS and the high-mids are kinda laid-back (compared to the JB).
I do agree that it's not that dark in the highs. At least not so compared to the JB, for example. But then again, a JB is darker (in the highs, not in the high-mids) than the average PAF, the average mid-output pickup, or even the average Ceramic high output humbucker.
I would not say the Tone Zone is a JB clone by any means, but IME, it is roughly the same output level, has a similar stuffy not super immediate feel, and is mid-focused, just in a different kind of zone compared to the JB.
Oh, and also, it has the typical DiMarzio nasal wah wah mids.
