Do all tuner pedals have a crackling noise with distortion?

When using a tuner pedal that mutes the signal, there is some static/crackling type sound that bleeds through if I try to tune with my distortion on. Is this normal?

I tried it with a buffered Korg DT-10 and a true bypass Gogo pedal tuner. It was worse with the Gogo tuner, but I could till hear it in the Korg.

Are some tuner pedal brands more prone to this than others?

I have never, ever experienced that. Any time I hit the tuner, everything goes dead.

I use a Snark tuner. Got rid of all of my other tuners. Works flawlessly - and silently.

I had the same problem while tuning with a boss tu-2 and a metal muff. When the green led would turn on, you'd hear a pop. Turn off, pop again. Didn't happen going through the reds though.

Yep. That's what I've got happening here, as well.

Have you tried new cables? I have never ever had anything like this happen and I've been using a Boss tuner pedal for over 12 years.

Re: Do all tuner pedals have a crackling noise with distortion?

Try putting the tuner in the last part of the chain and see if that helps. Thats where I keep my Tu2 and I dont have this issue.

I have only owned one tuner pedal and its completely transparent. Korg pitchblack

Re: Do all tuner pedals have a crackling noise with distortion?

My Digitech RP 255 doesn't do that when I go to bypass/tuner.

I have a Korg DT-10 that I've used for years and it does the same thing.

I think that it generates a little noise from the incoming signal from the guitar when tuning and this is amplified by the distortion. I don't notice it when my amp is set to clean.

Yep, no problems on clean here, either. Nice tuner, but I might try something else. It's probably always done this, but for whatever reason I never noticed it before.

I'm pretty sure my cables are all good. Using Planet Waves cables, a bit bulky and expensive, but I feel like they are of good quality.

This + 1,000 I've had a bunch of tuners over the years that you had to plug into and sooner or later I had troubles with all of them in one way or another. A friend who had one of these let me borrow it one night when we were jamming together and was impressed enough that I went and got one the next day. All you have to do is clip it to your headstock, leave the volume off and tune up. It's handy when your trying to tune up when the rest of the band is noodling, it only picks up what your guitar is doing very accurately and quietly. Best $24 I've ever spent.
