I'm curious to see who has drumkits and what kind they are. I have a really crappy set but it's got all Zildjians (ZBT's of course). Does anyone know of a good, quality set for like...around 400 bucks? I wanna have a nice solid set, i've already cracked the shells of the ones i have :1: Any good websites would be appreciated too. :)

I've got a drumset. I'm almost embarrassed to say that it's a Purple Sparkle DW 5 piece set. I could have bought 3 very nice guitars for what the set cost me. Oh well, it looks cool and drummers love to come over to my house to jam!

I do, I used to have 2 kits but gave one. Now I have Ludwig set (Super Classic) its an 8 piece set and I use Zildjians Avedis and a K custom. Yeah I guess it is a big kit.....:D

Around $400, you might want to look at some used drum kits, probably a Tama Rockstar or pearl export, see if you can find any pacific drums (made by DW) of course used, Remo makes good drums as well. Try Ludwig accent. If you go into the world of suspended mouting (RIMS) you are goind to pay more. Try Yamaha Rydeen.

Hope this helps..............

I've got my dads old 60's gold sparkle drumset, really crappy japanese brand, but its got a nice gold sparkle Ludwig snare with it, that cost more than the whole drumset itself.

Sorry, but I seriously doubt you're gonna be able to find a good quality set for around $400.:15:

Rondo Music!!!

I'm seriously thinking about picking the double bass set up from them...

I agree. Like a lot of things out there, you get what you pay for.

Currently I play a '67 Slingerland Jazz set 4pc, rarely use the Tama Rockstar....(pssst, they suck)

Hmm yeh i dunno about 400bucks but at the moment pearl exports seem to be reasonably priced so look into them .......class kits

I'm a dummer as well, and I'd recommend putting your money into cymbals rather than shells. Cheap drums can sound okay if you tune them reasonable well, but nothing makes up for crappy cymbals.

I was playing a friends kit with ZBTs on it and I just couldn't believe how horrible they sounded. It was like playing garbage can lids....

What do you guys think about Mapex? My friend has a Mapex saturn pro custom set, and it rocks. He uses ZXT's, and my ride sounds better personally. The crashes are the only thing I really don't like about ZBT's. Our old drummer had Z crashes, and man are they loud and obnoxious.

I'm not really too good on the drum tuning thing. I can get a consistent tuning, just not right pitch. I use Remo pinstripe clears on all the tom batter heads and I cut up some old tshirts and put them under the heads to muffle. Then i took the really crappy heads that came with them and cut holes in the middle and use them as bottom heads. It's a nice sound, I just like that big open tom sound, yet not so ringing and overtone-y.

This is the best deal I saw out of the ones in th 300-500 range: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...4271601/g=perc/search/detail/base_pid/448622/

What do you think?

The drumkit is maple and basswood, should be good.

As far as tuning goes, only tune one head at a time. Start off with only one head on the drum. Tune it to the pitch you want, and then do the other one. Make sure you always set a drumhead before attempting to tune it. This means tuning a drumhead to a pitch much higher than you want - get it to the pitch you want, then turn each lug three to six times more. Then leave it for 12 hours, then take it off the drum. Then you can tune it.

And don't cut holes in your toms or use t-shirts. Get some Remo Powerstroke III's or IV's instead.
