That Nash stuff is total b.s. The guy claims that the beating he gives **** actually makes it sound better, and he refuses to sell brand new finishes, citing the same reason. I also have been told that his new guitars are nothing but assemblies using licensed parts, which he finishes and "ages."

i would get it and do my own refinish. Then send pics of my new shiny finish to him just to piss his dumbass off.

I'm not saying the Nash quality is horrible (though it ain't the best by a long shot). It's just that the relic fad is about as idiotic as it gets, and this guy just feeds it even more with his marketing b.s., so he can make a living doing it.

He never claimed it was a Gibson relic job (they don't relic standard series guitars)

He never claimed it was Nash relic either, simply that Nash relic'ing was the vibe he was going for.

"Professional" is questionable, who is the professional that did this?

Yeh. Thanks fellas. I dont even like relicing as a concept regardless of who does it. I'm guessing it was the owner who did this. I just thought it was probably a cool sounding guitar for the price. I think ill be better off finding an sg that hasnt been attacked with and angle grinder for the same price.

You're better off letting nature take it's course. If circumstances arise in which you need to sell it (hopefully you won't but you never know), you'll get more for it if it's in near-mint condition. The relic thing...it's a "niche" market. Personally, I'd only buy a relic'd guitar if I knew I'd never sell it.

I really don't like "relicing". It's like a lie to me. It's not the look that impresses people its the fact that the guitar has been around a while and played a lot that does. When the guitar hasn't been around a while and played a lot, it's not cool anymore. Sure it LOOKS like it's been around a while and yeah you fool some faces in the audience I guess, but cmon I'm not paying a DIME extra for that.

Dislike relicing too, even when it's well done. The whole phenomenon in principle gives pretext for selling guitars with cosmetic f***-ups without significant price reduction (though that SG isn't too expensive); and on booteek guitars, it jacks the price up because of the labour.

One thing I don't like about modern Standards and Specials is the ridiculous neck angle, such that the bridge pu is often maxed out in height and both pups refuse to sit parallel to the strings because they're scratchplate mounted.

Fwiw, the newer ones also have the circuit board mounted pots and jack.

This one is my favourite, the guy claims this guitar lived up to a true RNR status as it got reliced. That's a Turbo-sticker-on-a-car type of a paradox to me :D

If it was treated badly why not wait for the battle wounds to develop themselves, instead of purposely inducing them?

Forgot to mention: Gibson do make factory "relics," however, they only do so with Custom Shop/Art/Historic models.

yeh mebbe a grand. and id replace everything anyway cos like most guys here im a pickup and soldering nerd. Im thinking bigsby too..

Little-known fact: The first thing to wear on any guitar is that forearm spot, and it always does so with laser-sharp precision.

For maximum comic effect, visit your nearest Fender Road Worn or JHS/Vintage Icon dealer. See those guitars all lined up with near identical wear patterns. :D

I have a Fender Relic Nocaster which I love dearly. On the other hand, I can understand why artificial ageing would offend some. It would be like a head of state awarding him or herself the country's highest military service honours without ever having been in combat.

I tried a Fender 'Nate Mendel' Precision a few days back. It comes factory fitted with 'evidence of use', which didn't bother me too much either way. In the end though, as well as it actually played, it wasn't the sound I was looking for.

I used to wonder why anyone would put lice back? Aren't they hard enough to get rid of in the first place?
