Righto, thanks. Was just thinking of getting some bits off RS Guitarworks (a Superpot and a Switchcraft jack) but their cheapest option for shipping to Canada is $14, which is criminal for a couple small electronic bits.
I've been looking at this as an alternative to the superpot. Anyone tried one of these? It looks mostly similar in terms of increased tolerances and taper.

Those have higher tolerances, custom audio tapers and're designed for volume pots in particular. Or is that all snake oil? I wouldn't know, since I've only used Alphas in all my guitar wirings so far, so I'm looking for something a bit nicer.

no cap, just fun. although you may want to think about a tone if you need more versatiltiy. that is if there is room for one. what pup is in there? on a single bucker id go for a sh-5, that thing is great for single bucker slots

I like using a 250K strat pot with a humbucker in that kind of guitar. If you add a cap, the guitar will still be bright when rolling off the volume. That's not what I want, because I like being able to back off the volume to shave off some highend. That way, you can sort of control the tone, just by moving the volume between 7 and 10.

I dunno. In my current setups I almost never use the tone knob. I'm putting in an Anderson H3 bucker, which is supposed to be really balanced and versatile, especially with Mesas like I use.

you might want to try the kinman mod, which makes your volume control a bit more versatile. There's a thread here about it by zhang, just seach 'kinman mod' and you should be able to find it. I have it in my strat, and it works great, but my volume pot is faulty (it's my own fault, some solder got in between the contacts on the inside of the pot, so it doesn't actually reduce the volume as I turn it down) so YMMV.

It's just a 130k resistor in series with .0012 cap (though .001 will do) across the two non-ground lugs of the volume pot.
