Do I need to fix this?

I just installed p rails on my Schecter Blackjack. The strings and pole pieces do not line up quite right on the bridge pup. The ears of the pup are snug in the cavity, so I cannot just move the ring and re-drill. Is it worth routing to correct this?

BTW, yes I know the screws aren't in the ring in this picture, but trust me, it is lined up with the holes.

Re: Do I need to fix this?

I know there's two different spacings available, F spaced applies here.

I could be wrong though.

routing? no, you need an trem spaced bridge pickup, but if it sounds ok i wouldn't worry about it.

Unless you're severely OCD, you don't need to fix anything.

HTH,

If you REALLY have to have it line up, then take the pickup out and bend the mounting legs toward the treble side JUST A HAIR. It will shift the pickup under the bass strings a bit more. I would only try it if something didnt sound right though. Like the others said, it should work fine.

That will just put the high E out of line. And I would rather have the low E out of line than the high E.

Thats why I said a HAIR, so the low E can have better coverage without uncovering the high E completely

I just measured high E to low E: it's 50 mm. I guess this guitar could use either spacing. It came with an SH4, so it must have always looked like this even with the original pickup.

I think I am just going to leave it as is. The picture actually makes the misalignment look a little worse than it is. The pole piece does overlap the low E string by JUST a hair - it's just about as much off-center as it could be.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

That is a really good idea. I will try this first if I am unable to live with it.

Re: Do I need to fix this?

That would be as a last resort if it doesn't sound right, or if you just can't stand the look of it. Otherwise, just rock out on it.

Re: Do I need to fix this?

To me F spaced pickup sound almost the same as the normal size in my strat, maybe I am not able to hear the difference

Re: Do I need to fix this?

You don't need to do anything. It will sound the same even if you move it slightly. Just play your guitar and stop worrying about it.

Re: Do I need to fix this?

That would bother me as well, though it wouldn't be a deal breaker if I had got the pickups super cheap.

Are they available in different spacings? if so, return the bridge p/u and get one with a wider spacing. Won't make a huge difference, but might as well get it right while you still can make a return.
