I have found that I don't like the JB in guitars with Floyd Rose bridges. I have tried it in basswood and alder bodies with Floyds, and it's like there's too much bass and not enough top end, which is odd for a JB. I like the Custom 5 better in this application. The JB sounds really good in a Les Paul, but I haven't tried it in a standard-hardware strat.

Remember that almost all usa Jacksons have alder body with jbs at the bridge position. And for sure Jacksons don't sound like ass

I personally think they do with the JB in them.

I've owned several USA Jacksons and they are bright ass guitars. Even though I love the JB it's not a good match for those guitars IMO regardless of what amp I used. I did't like most Duncans in there actually because I felt they were too bright. Those particular guitars got Dimarzios.


My cheapo Kramers on the other hand LOVED the JB...it sounded fantastic in those guitars.

I guess the The Wayne Guitar that Twilight uses is made of ALDER and is a variation of a strat. I guess its your amp effects and others that count too. Hey Twilight the JB sounded nice on ur guitar also on guitarist guitar ( GARY MOORE )

Not to be petty, but yes, I knew that, and yes I was saying it was good, and yes, I acknowledged all the alder bodies. How about a helpful comment, for a change?

The reason why Duncan has so many pickups is because there are so many guitar/player/amp combinations out there. It's all about finding the pickup that suits those 3 other elements.

I agree with GJ on this one. So much is dependant on what amp you're using with your alder-body axe, what gauge strings you use on your guitar, and the manner in which you play. Seymour designed the JB for Jeff Beck's Tele back in older times, and I would assume that Tele was an alder-body guitar as well. But Jeff uses a finger/thumb-picking method most of the time in lieu of a pick, if not all the time, which obviously dampens and smooths out the sound a little. So, the JB is probably a very ideal pickup for his style of playing.

Any pickup will sound different depending on the body. I have a JB in my Tele, it sounds great. I tried it on my Strat and noticed that it didn't have enough low end, the Strat body sounds thin due to the tremelo cavity, try a hard tail Strat and you'll hear a much fuller tone.

Hmm cld it also be the kind of finish put on the guitar that affects the tone so much. I have heard the kind of finish you have does affect your tone. Given the fact that Jerry cantrell has his signature model he cld have a custom paint job. just like the wayne guitars that have a thinner finish.
What I am trying to say is maybe its your finish u have on ur alder guitar or the Grade of alder which makes so much diff with the same pick up, and same tone wood.

yeah possible the pots, for instance Jeff beck I think had 250k pots on the tele. I too am going to add 250k pot for the tone.
