From my professional point of view, as a luthier, it makes it easier to change strings and it makes it easier to be stable. If you wind the strings correctly (on a hardtail, trems imho always benefit from locking tuners) it doesn't make a difference.
That being said. I load all Guitars with locking tuners. Why? When at the end of the day I have to string and tune up,I just wanna get it over with. That simple.
