Do passive EMGs (HZ) need grounding?

I'm getting a H4 and the instructions say nothing about grounding (solderless install, comes with two pots and a jack). I've found some document which states they need to be grounded but it was for the older pickups which didn't have solderless installation.

So in my case with only one volume I just solder the bridge ground wire to the back of the pot and that's it?

I think you still have to solder from the switch, unless it comes with a switch. And you'll need to keep the guitar ground wire but it should have a little place to put the wire and screw it in place. See if this helps:

Pickup baseplates and the (-) pickup lead? - always. Strings/Bridges? - Most people would.

I recently did an uber-proper shielding job like uOpt is always "nagging" us to do and that bridge grounds are unnecessary, and I'll be dammed: It worked. It is just as quiet when I am not touching the strings, as if I was touching the strings.

That looks way more complicated than it should be.

What configuration are you using? 1 HB with volume and tone? 2 HB and 2 volumes? I'd just solder the pickup ground to something grounded, or even the sleeve of the jack if it is close enough.

Master vol and that's it. It goes in a cheap HSS strat but I'm gonna discard the cheap SCs, the switch and the tone pots.

In that video he explains everything. It's pretty much just snap together. I'd say just run the ground to a pot but I don't know if that would damage the electronics in the pot. I'd maybe email EMG on that one.

Re: Do passive EMGs (HZ) need grounding?

The new HZ-pickups have the grounding included in the connection to the jack. They don't need to be grounded.

Re: Do passive EMGs (HZ) need grounding?

OK I have another question. The cable from the jack (includes the hot and ground connections) to the volume pot is too short for my strat. I need to solder new, longer wires. I know ground goes to the back of the volume pot (I already soldered the bridge ground to its side) and hot goes to the middle lug of the volume pot. Two questions:

A: The EMG-pot doesn't have lugs so where do I solder the hot connection to? Pic: http://images.stringslingers.co.uk/emg_25k_volume_pot.jpg
B: Will it work if I solder it? It's like mixing solderless and soldered install.

Re: Do passive EMGs (HZ) need grounding?

You could snip the wire from the jack to the volume pot and then solder a wire in between so you don't have to do anything on the pots or jack. I'm surprised the wires aren't long enough.
