Do Peavey Rage amps take distortion pedals well?

Bought a peavey rage 258 before, sounded horrible when plugged in a distortion pedal,it's almost like the speaker is linear, seriously, and I returned it.
I'm looking for a practice amp at the moment and I read some reviews that peavey rage amps take pedals extremely well and I'm just confused.
Anyone used one of these amps before?

It should be exactly like the one you didn't like and returned

The Peavey Rage258 and the Peavey Rage are the same thing

If you move up to the Envoy or Bandit
Those two take pedals well in my experience

Or you could go with a used Vyper
Which sound really well on their own
But the Vyper is a modeling amp and probably won't like a distortion up front

My Peavey Rage didn't sound very good with or without a pedal. I could hear myself and learn how to play though.

I always thought all the different Bandits over the years sounded good with pedals.
