Do pedals have overdriven tube dynamics

Re: Do pedals have overdriven tube dynamics

I don't think a Twin would be a wise choice. Too loud & too clean for home use, unless you are playing in a loud band in most cases the Twin is unusable. Its 80W (or more) it has a very clean circuit and is really heavy. The Deluxe Reverb would be ideal for home use but as others have said they don't have a lot of clean headroom. A great amp though. I use mine when I gig & have very little trouble getting what I need. The major drawback to a DR is lack of headroom. At 22w it gets dirty pretty quick. The advantage is you can clean it up by rolling your volume down some. Consider purchasing a Pro Reverb. Its like half a Twin. Its powered with 2 6L6 tubes and has about 40W. Also it has 2 12" speakers so as I said.... half a Twin. More manageable..... I think these amps have a tendency to be a bt bright, but I think that depends on the guitar you are using. With HB pickups it should be just fine. Another option could be a Super Reverb. The Super Reverb is also 40W but it has 4 10" speakers making it a lot heavier then a Pro but it also moves more air and it has a really sweet tone to them. I would recommend buying a early silverface over a reissue. The reissue uses circuit boards and the original designs are all hardwired to the chassis so you should have better results and a bullet proof amp. The drawback to buying an older amp(68 through 74) is most of the caps will need to be replaced, so plan on spending more for the amp and more maintenance after you get the amp, but it will be worth it. These early silverface amps IMHO are equal to any blackface and they cost less. You want to avoid a Silverface that has a master volume. Not sure exactly when they added the MV control but I am going to guess about 75. Anything earlier then that should be a great buy. When you look at buying these older amps. Twins are pretty reasonable, but as I stated earlier they are really loud. Deluxe Reverbs are going for around $1500 & up depending on condition. Pros and Supers are starting at about 15 to 16 and can get as high as 2K. But you get what you pay for.....

Re: Do pedals have overdriven tube dynamics

I think you are making an excellent choice with the Twin. For home use it doesn't matter what the wattage is when using nice pedals, even my 40w, 15w and SS amps can't be cranked. With a Twin you can crank the amp to ear shattering volumes and still be clean so it doesn't make much difference how low you play it. They sound excellent with pedals at low volumes. You'll be happy with the tone. I personally think the re-issues sound phenomenal and are really stable. Power Tranny is a bit underpowered so they can run warm, but they sound great to me. You can change out speakers, but mine are stock Jensens and they sound responsive after breaking in. Bottom line, for pedal OD, Twins are a great choice. Heavy, yes but that is what dollies are for. BTW, I also use a Blues Deluxe you mentioned. For a 1-12 it is loud and clean on the clean channel. Also takes pedals well but is warmer. I have to adjust my pedal settings when I switch amps. I put an Eminence Cannabis Rex in my BD. Great smooth tone. Both are great, I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite.

Have fun in the quest!

Much respect!
