I know that there are only a few manufacturing companies, yes, but they make the strings according to the spec of the individual company placing the order. I have no doubt that there are some identical strings out there under two or more different names, but I don't believe that all 10-46 Nickel Steel sets (for example) are automatically the same. At the very least, even with only a few manufacturing plants out there, there's still plenty of room for differences between plants even if they were all working from the same plans -- which as far as I can tell they're not.
