Do the Floyd Roses without fine tuners have the same tonal range as a standard Floyd?

I've been thinking about getting one for a G and L Strat I have. The nuts fine, but the bridge won't stay in tune. So I was thinking about using the no fine tuners Floyd Roses without a locking nut. Anyone have any problems with them? I'm most concered about the range.

Re: Do the Floyd Roses without fine tuners have the same tonal range as a standard Fl

If you have the standard G&L trem, and it's a USA model, then watch out for those bushings. They are incredibly knurled and will likely be very difficult to remove, chewing up the body wood all around the anchor upon removal. It's a very invasive tremolo swap.

The pitch range of the trem is equally linked to where the saddles are located on the tremolo after it's been intonated. It's about the relationship between the fulcrum and the saddle intonation point. So the same Floyd Rose trem can have more range on a guitar where it sits forward and the saddles are back, vs sitting further back and the saddles are pushed forward.

This is a somewhat off topic question, but does any company make a drop-in replacement for a 6 screw synchronized tremolo that looks similar to the stock ones? I got a MIM Strat and its range just doesn't keep up with the rest of my guitars. It feels "inadequate" with only about a whole step of drop. I don't need spaghetti strings, but I want something that can close.

6-screw trems simply do not have the same range as 2-post trems by design.

The range of any given trem is not dictate by the bridge unit itself, but also the body and cavity routing, as well as the size of the trem block. Small cavity routing + large trem block = trem block hitting the wood or backplate in the back and limiting your range. Great example of this is the larger brass block that some people like to put into their Floyds, especially when they go from 32mm to 42mm: they're trading tremolo range for a different tone.

As far as drop-in replacements for 6-screw trems go

MannMade makes a PRS-type replacement for Fenders with 6-screw mounting. They're expensive but great.
