Do you equate a certain amp/guitar/pup to a certain genre?

I'm sitting here having fun with this DD, and its split mode, running down through the presets on my
J-Station. I see folks talking frequently about using this amp, with that guitar, with that pup, with that style of music.

I'll only list a few, but what guitar, (LP, Strat, Tele, etc.), and what genre of music, would you associate with these amps? (And, do even agree with that concept?)

you're absolutely right .. there are certain combinations of guitar & amp that just "work"

every now and then, I find some new combination that surprises me

several years ago, I had a G & L ASAT Special that sounded pretty large through my tweed Champ! who knew?

but, there are a few tried and true formulas that really sound great

dual rectifier is all metal to me, w/ a jackson RR signature V its the death metal machine.

blackface bassmans get a pretty nice rumble when cranked like a marshall.

Any marshall or fender works great with strats, teles, or gibsons.

Vox makes me think of the beatles.

I like a really good clean sound, 100 watt marshalls and blackface fenders do that really well so they would work perfectly in a blues/jazz/R&B type style.

Anything ceramic makes me think of harsh metal tones, alnico 5 pups always deliver a great strat quack for funk/blues tones, alnico 2's make for a great smooth sounding PAF or 50's strat tone perfect for blues/classic rock.

I like a really good clean sound, 100 watt marshalls and blackface fenders do that really well so they would work perfectly in a blues/jazz/R&B type style.

The Blackface model, is my favorite "clean" sound on this thing. Its the setting I use 95% of the time.

jackson / esp + emg 81 + mesa dual rectifier = metal

That's a pretty good explanation of what I think too.

Peavey 5150 = metal

Vintage Marshall = rock, for the most part

Fenders normally appear in my mind as blues amps, but I can't really say that...they sound really nice when cranked.

I associate JB's and DD's with metal, as well as 5150's and XXX's and Mesa's high gain stuff.

Marshalls and LP's to me are usually classic rock type stuff.

Any VHT, ENGL, Bogner, Framus Cobra's, higher end amps like that, metal.

PRS's make me think of Opeth and nu-metal.

I have a Mesa Dual Recto Blue Angel, and I don't think it is a metal amp. Master volumes are for suckers.

PRS + Mesa Rectifier = Numetal
Fender + Fender (typically) = Blues
Jackson RR V + Mesa (non rectifier) = Metal

Interesting . . . so far, my best "bluesy" tone comes from my 59's into the Blackface model. Which they say, is based on the '65 Fender Twin Reverb.

The DD into either the Mesa Dual Recto, or the Matchless DC30 gives great "metal". (or tone it down a bit for good ole rock.)

JB thru Dual Recti with Skate/Melodic Punk
Invader thru Dual Recti with Pop Punk
PRS + Rectifier = Numetal
JCM900 Alternative/Indie Rock maybe just rock
