Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Frequently. My Parker is QUITE responsive to it. LesStrat less so, but since the SD upgrade it responds more.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I use it quite a bit, but in moderation on my Tele.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I would rather have a volume in it's place. I adjust the treble/predsence on my amp.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Mine's broken right now, but I used to use it. I kinda miss it now, reading all this...

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I always have the tone knob rolled back a bit on my JB...
JB in alder with maple fretboard and aluminum pickguard, most people would probably agree that it would be too bright without the tone backed off a bit.
As it is right now I absolutly love the tone I'm getting from it.
I got rid of my '59n because I thought it was too dark even with the tone knob all the way up, and I couldn't lower it...
hopefully the HFH will satisfy my tone needs a little better.

Rock ON :headbang:

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

But of course. I actually have it set in a sort of 'nuetral' position for both the BRIDGE and NECK buckers. From there, depending on whatever I want, I can tweak it subtly and always have a good sound.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Yes, especially if the pickup is bright/clear and has good articulation, then rolling the tone control down makes it sound like a warmer pup.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Yes-more lately. I have a tele and the tone control can do so much for that guitar's bridge pickup. It will warm things up nicely if I roll it back.

As others have said-I have used it more now that I am trying to distill "my tone" and I would be pretty lost without it.

I was always wondering if anyone ever really use the tone control(s) on their guitars. I always have mine dialed in at full all the time and never touch it again except if I feel that my tone is sounding a bit bright, then I would back it off a little. I hear a few people complaining that certain pickups and such are too bright sounding, I was wondering if they even tried to roll off the tone control(s) on their axe to fix the problem. :scratchch :burnout:

Always and especially on both of my Teles....

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I only seem to use the tone control on my neck pickup . . . my bridge always sounds the best dialed in as bright as possible.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Using them more and more these days. Mind you, my Legacy is encouraging me to find the vast wealth of sounds available on it.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

not all my guitars have one, and only occasionally use them.. find myself more often rolling the vol off a little instead..

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Pretty much never... usually only when I'm messing around

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

On my LP's I use them all the time, but on my strat I had them removed as I never touched them.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I started playing with the tone knobs of my Studio a few months ago, and I quite enjoy it know, espacially when playing with both pups. :burnout:

Tone knob + volume knob = wonderful toy.

Now, I personally wouldn't appreciate a guitar on which you couldn't fine tune each pup individually.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

I use mine generally to get a different tone, not necessarily because my sound is too bright at times. An interesting sound is using the Bridge Hum w/tone rolled to 0 and the wah wah pedal in a static position fully forward, or vice versa with the neck pup.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Depends on the guitar and amp. Up until about five years ago, I was the kind of guy who left the volume and tone timed. Then I started using the volume control a bit. When I bought a single channel amp, I really got into it to clean up my tone because I rarely use dirt pedals.

In the past year or so, I've been using the tone control a fair bit more. It's useful to take some of the edge off OD tones and soften up clean tones as well. Even so, I rarely take it below about 5 so it's pretty subtle.

Re: Do you ever use the Tone Control(s) on your Guitar?

Maybe it's just the folks I've met over the years, but if you made this a poll, I would bet that most of the tone users are on gibson type gtrs and the non users are on fender types-

This is the way I approach it as well, so maybe I'm just noticing the folks that do what I do- But to me it seesms to be a fundemental tone issue..ie a big bright humbucker still has a lot to offer when you roll off the top, while most single coils kind of die- Or antoher way to put it is if I roll the trebble off of my bridge pup on my strat, at best I get a kind of anemic version of the neck pup.

As a result my mainstrat tone was replaced with a 3 pup split roll off which has been incredibley useful, yet I use the tone on my prs all the time- Good hybred example would be my nitefly that has both the coil roll off and tone- I tend to use the tone to roll the brightness off of the bridge JB, but practically never use it on the SC hums and they are rolled off to near single coils most of the time.
