Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

I have a David Gilmour pedalboard. That is what it is for. When the day is long and times are hard I plug ol' David in. Two different flavors of pi, some silicon fuzz face, some boosts either before or after distortion, dynacomp clone, three delays. When my wife hears Gilmour tones she puts her hair in pigtails and does that 'white girl concert on the lawn' dance.

My recording rig is pretty diverse and flexible and subject to change.

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

I try to make my one rig as versatile as possible. ATM I have a wet/dry/wet set up with Marshall JVM410H (dry) going through a 4x12 and Line6 X3 Live going through Fender Mustang 5's stereo poweramp and into another 4x12 in stereo. And those two 4x12's are stacked. With the X3 Live I can control everything on the JVM so I basically have almost limitless amount of options and sounds I can get out of that rig. If I don't want so marshall-y sound I can put the marshall more on the backround and put something more Mesa-Boogie-y or Fender-y out of the X3 more prominent.

I have a few different rigs, but they're not so much for different styles as they are for variety.

I try to avoid falling into thinking that I can only play certain music on a specific rig. Having to adapt my playing to make the music suit a "wrong" amp is half the fun.

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

Frank Lee has different rigs for different types of Black Metal. It gets confusing, but He needs to be able to adapt to the significant tonal differences between, say, Unholy Black Metal, Black Metal, Kvlt Black Metal, and Tr00 Black Metal. How could anyone even attempt to play Depressive Black Metal, US Black Metal, and Paranormal Black Metal with the same rig?

Thank you.

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

Doing studio work, I'm constantly picking gear combinations to do different things.

Lately, it's been music for cartoons, where it's usually a SG or tele, my big FX board, and whatever amp or modeller.

My rock rig is usually a LP, Strat, McCarty, small FX board, and Bogner XTC.

Blues/roots stuff is a couple strats, ES-335, a few pedals, and Matchless Chieftain or Gibson Goldtone.

I don't usually do acoustic gigs, except for some recording or playing by myself, and it can be a dreadnaught, classical, or resonator/slide.

I mess with pedalboards all the time, and keep a large number of pedals around. I'm always rearranging my own, as well as tweaking other rigs for local players.

What type of music do you play with the tennis rackets?

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

I have multiple rigs every time I play.

I have one too :)
Except, well, I only use like 3 different sounds most of the time :laugh2:

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

The more the merrier. Amps are like guitars.....can never have too many.

I have a modeling amp that I use mostly so I guess I can say yes. But, I use mostly one of the amp models in it. It just works for me. Then I have my Marshall JCM 900 MKIII head. That's strictly rock and roll but I use it for other stuff too.

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

Yep.

My main rig now is my 65 Amps Lil Elvis with my Tele (or Les Paul Studio or Agile LP copy) and some pedals.

Then I have a Splawn QR/'89 Marshall JCM 800 2210 for rock/metal stuff with a bunch of FR equipped guitars.

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

I play in two pretty different groups, and this rig lets me do just about anything I want in each setting.

In one setting (P&W) I play a lot of triads and higher chord inversions behind an acoustic player, with the occasional hook melody between a chorus and the next verse. I use clean tones more than OD, with various amounts of delay and bits of modulation. Volume swells and ambient reverbs are used a lot here, too.

In the other (pop, singer/songwriter) I play rhythm with a lot of embellishments, with lead breaks and hooks here and there. I don't play a whole lot of pristine clean stuff, so I crank the amp so it's breaking up. I need multiple flavors of dirt, several modulation options, but really only use delay to give leads some body.

This is my rig:
* 65 Amps Memphis
* Fender Bandmaster
* Avatar 2x12 cab (V30/G12H30)
* Geezer 1x12 cab (Cannabis Rex)
* Pedalboard (2 OD, fuzz, compressor, M9, DD20)
* Telecaster

Re: Do you have rigs for multiple styles around?

Frank Lee gimmick brings it every time.

I have a rig I use mostly for doom/post rock stuff and a rig I use mostly for my more metal stuff, but neither rig is limited to just those styles.
